00:00Now, it's something I've not really had a chance to ask anyone recently, but I want to put it to you and get your perspective.
00:05What do you think Iran would do with a nuclear weapon?
00:07I don't think that, in my opinion, and this is just my opinion, I never I was never worried about the fact that they would actually use a nuclear weapon.
00:18What I was worried about and what the clear threat to the world from on my in my perspective was, was that they would become a deterrent state.
00:26Once they became a deterrent state, similar to the during the Cold War.
00:31Right. The arms race. It was always it was always about.
00:34Well, I mean, who knows what what the Soviet Union would have done.
00:37But the whole point was that once you become a deterrent state, you cannot be deterred.
00:42Right. You want to sanction them. You want to, you know, isolate them.
00:46You want to do whatever you whatever you feel is necessary, whatever the international community feels is necessary to obstruct their proliferation in the region.
00:56How are you going to do that when they've become a deterrent state?
00:58How are you going to sanction them when they've become a deterrent state?
01:01How are you going to rein in their bad behaviors when they've become a deterrent state and they can just say to you, what are you going to do?
01:09We have nukes. And so in my fear this whole time was not that they were necessarily ever planning to use nuclear weapons.
01:17It was the fact that they couldn't be deterred once they had nuclear weapons.
01:22And it would, of course, inspire other actors in the region to have to protect themselves by matching their nuclear capabilities.
01:28We have to do that in the right now.
