00:00In a quiet village of Ahilyanagar in Maharashtra, where farming once seemed impossible,
00:16a young man decided to turn his roots into his future.
00:21Meet Mayur Lamkhade, a 27-year-old who left his stable IT job in Mumbai
00:27to revive his family's neglected pomegranate orchard in Kailiwadi village.
00:32Mayur says he planted pomegranate trees as he was interested in farming
00:37and it was more fulfilling than his job.
00:44Around two years ago, I was working in an IT company.
00:48I was interested in farming and we had a farm at my house.
00:52I had planted pomegranate trees.
00:54Since I was interested in farming, I left my IT job where I had a salary of Rs. 30,000 a month
01:02and I am now managing pomegranate farming.
01:07And I found success in the first year itself.
01:10We have got the rate of Rs. 145 per kilogram
01:14and our pomegranates have been exported to Bangladesh.
01:17In the first harvest from the one and half acres of land,
01:23six tons of pomegranates have been exported.
01:26There is still some fruit left.
01:31With just determination and a little planning,
01:34Mayur breathed life into a land where even grass struggled to grow.
01:38Before he began farming, Mayur visited several successful pomegranate farms,
01:45met horticulturists and experts and took stock of the land.
01:50After gaining all the relevant knowledge,
01:52Mayur planted 500 saffron pomegranate trees,
01:55installed trip irrigation and built a farm pond to tackle water scarcity.
01:59The young farmer was elated by his first harvest.
02:04The orchard yielded six tons of premium quality pomegranates.
02:08The fruits were so good that traders visited his farm directly
02:12and purchased the entire batch at Rs. 145 per kg.
02:17For an investment of around Rs. 2 lakh,
02:20Mayur earned up to Rs. 7 lakh in profit.
02:22I have something to share with the farmers.
02:30I have adopted mixed farming.
02:32Along with pomegranates,
02:34I am also cultivating pink guavas from Taiwan.
02:37This is an example for the agrarians.
02:40Our pomegranates are ready
02:41and the pink guavas are ready for foam bagging.
02:45We get 60 to 70 fruits from each tree.
02:48It is my endeavor to cultivate more fruits
02:51in lesser land.
02:57This year, I have cultivated 6 to 6.5 tons of pomegranates
03:01and the expenditure for it was Rs. 1.5 to Rs. 2 lakh.
03:06My profit has been Rs. 6.5 to Rs. 7 lakh.
03:12Void by the success,
03:14Mayur adopted mixed farming,
03:16experimenting with guavas from Taiwan
03:18and planning more crops for seasonal returns.
03:21He also started experimenting with mango,
03:24coconut and chiku
03:25with a vision to harvest in a phased
03:27and season-specific manner.
03:30Mayur followed his heart,
03:31came back home
03:32and made his land bloom again.
03:35His story shows that with hard work and hope,
03:38anything is possible.
03:39And bring me on my Tenemos program,
03:39I do!
