In a bizarre twist at the NATO summit, Secretary General Mark Rutte defended U.S. President Donald Trump’s foul-mouthed outburst over the Iran-Israel ceasefire collapse — calling it “daddy using strong language.” The expletive-laden rant came just hours after Trump announced a truce that quickly fell apart. During a press conference, Trump compared the two nations to schoolyard kids, prompting Rutte to chime in with the now-viral “daddy” remark. Trump doubled down with jokes and leaked private texts showing Rutte praising his leadership. What does this mean for global diplomacy — and NATO's tone under Trump?

00:29Daddy has to sometimes use strong language, you can't stop it.
00:51We basically have two countries that have been fighting so long and so hard that they
00:57don't know what the f**k they're doing, do you understand that?
01:27Daddy has to sometimes use strong language, you can't stop it.
01:53Thank you, Deborah Haynes from Sky News.
02:00Hi.
02:01Hello.
02:02The language that you have used when talking to Donald Trump has been notable because of
02:08its flattery.
02:09Today you called him Daddy and you sent a text message to him that was gushing with praise.
02:17Is this the way that you feel that you have to act when doing business with the US president
02:23through flattery and praise?
02:25Isn't it a bit demeaning and doesn't it make you look weak?
02:29No, I don't think so.
02:30I think it's a bit of a question of taste, but I think he's a good friend and when he
02:36is doing stuff which is forcing us to, for example, when it comes to making more investments,
02:43I mean, would you ever think that this would be the result of this summit if he would not
02:48be elected president?
02:49Do you really think that the seven or eight countries who said, yeah, somewhere in the
02:532030s we might meet the 2%, who have now all decided in the last four or five months to
02:58get to 2%, so doesn't he deserve some praise?
03:01And when it comes to Iran, the fact that he took this decisive action, very targeted,
03:07to make sure that Iran would not be able to get his hands on a nuclear capability, I think
03:13he deserves all the praise.
