00:00Over the weekend, the Rochester Cruising Club held their annual Admiral of the River Cruise,
00:13a traditional procession steeped in history and ceremony. The idea of the
00:18Admiral's cruise is that the Admiral beats the bounds of his jurisdiction. So the bounds
00:23of his jurisdiction is from the Hawkewood Stone where we've cruised today and that marks the
00:29upper boundary of his jurisdiction. It's quite a lot of pomp and ceremony which I
00:34think is what makes Britain great. Camelot is my boat, it's the Admiral's barge for the
00:39weekend and I think the Mayor has been very touched, the Admiral has been very
00:43touched by the amount of participants in the cruise. The new Admiral was joined by
00:48esteemed company and by that I mean some dolphins who surfaced and rowed along with the ships.
00:54On the 14th of May this year I was elected as the latest Mayor of Medway and today I'm
01:01performing the role as Admiral of the waters of the Medway from the Sheerness to Hawkewood Stone.
01:08The river, just to see it when you travel upstream, how beautiful some of this is.
01:13The Mayor also pointed out the importance of conserving the River Medway and all its
01:18natural wildlife along with the dolphins he was joined by.
01:21Perhaps there's been too passive an involvement from the local authority over just the river,
01:27just to see it when you travel upstream and how beautiful some of this is really and it's a
01:33hidden thing you know and we shouldn't have that this is something to celebrate.
01:37Now I'm not sure how many boats are here but there are a lot lining the River Medway as part of the
01:42Admiral of the River cruise today. So much work that goes on with on the river to conserve the river and
01:48also to help with the fishery. So yeah I think it's a great event and it goes very much unnoticed
01:53every year and it's great to see you know such a large amount of the boats out from the
01:58Rochester cruising club. We've heard that there was a dolphin and actually to see it and then on the
02:02way back we actually saw a seal as well. What glorious weather, what a wonderful weekend to choose.
02:07Families, councillors and dolphins were all able to share the River Medway to celebrate this
02:13occasion. Kai Wei for KMTV in Rochester.
