David Chadwick has pressed the UK Government on what it is doing to help small businesses, especially pubs and restaurants, deal with soaring energy bills - but received little in the way of a direct answer. Video from parliament.tv

00:00I'd also like to commend the government for reintroducing an industrial strategy.

00:05An industrial strategy is crucial for spreading good jobs out across the United Kingdom.

00:09In my constituency, the hospitality industry is crucial for our local economy,

00:13boosting tourism, creating jobs and helping with rural regeneration,

00:17but is struggling with sky-high energy costs.

00:20What is the Secretary of State doing to ensure that SMEs in all sectors of our economy,

00:25particularly pubs and restaurants, receive better support with their energy costs?

00:31I thank him for his question.

00:33I would say, if you look at the impact of the kind of inward investment

00:37that this industrial strategy is seeking to deliver more of,

00:40take the incredible investment by Universal in that huge,

00:42the biggest theme park in Europe, in Bedfordshire.

00:45That will create, I think, 8,000 jobs in hospitality.

00:47So people should recognise there's a direct contribution between what we're doing here,

00:50what we're trying to get more of, and the kind of benefits he is talking about.

00:54We've set a target for 50 million visitors by 2030.

00:57So these issues are absolutely represented within here.

01:02will be in the small business plan, which will come out imminently next month
