Meet Heath (that’s me—dreamer, captain, and chief chaos coordinator) and Pookie (MasterChef UK’s beloved runner-up, culinary wizard, and the only reason we won’t starve at sea). Together, we’ve just bought Sawasdeekat, our mighty St Francis 48 Catamaran, and—because the universe has a sense of humor—immediately had to drive her for the first time with only Non English speaking dock hands for help and into a dock that was only half a metre each side bigger than my as yet uninsured boat. Then, once magically that happened without a hitch, a monster storm that knocked down trees like matchsticks comes through! 🌪️🌴

00:00Hi guys, welcome to SoReadyCat. This is video number three and this video shows us basically
00:21going from flying in September 2021 into Murcia to take a look and do a boat survey of the boat
00:30we'd seen and we'd put an offering on in Ibiza. So we landed, we took a drive down to Cartagena
00:37to do the boat survey. Now, Cartagena is a lovely place. We can't recommend it enough. It's a
00:46beautiful sort of city. It's got lots of Roman, I don't know what you call them, amphitheaters,
00:52etc. But we weren't there for all that. We were there to see our boat SoReadyCat and do
00:58the boat survey. After that, we basically put our offer in, our revised offer and we went
01:05back to Murcia to have a look round, to do a bit of sightseeing while the owners considered
01:15our revised offer. Where are we going? We are going to look for the old post office. That
01:28turned to be the like sort of the kind of the mixed market restaurant. Well, I heard from
01:36someone in the area. So we're going to check it out. Wow, look at that, Cartagena. Oh my God. I didn't expect to see that.
01:43Turn the corner. Turn the corner. Turn the corner. Turn the corner and you look like, wow. Oh my God. Oh my God. I didn't expect to see that.
02:02I didn't expect to see that, just like, turn the corner and it was like, wow.
02:11Oh look at the architectural, the statue that they carved.
02:18So while we walked around Murphia and had a bit of sightseeing, the people got back on the phone and then they asked us back because the deal was done.
02:28We signed for the boat and then immediately got back in the car, drove all the way back, scenic route this time, back to Murphia to get a load of stuff because the boat was sold with nothing in it whatsoever.
02:41OK, we've been shopping, bought just a bit of stuff for our boat. It's absolutely chock-a-block full.
02:50And now we're going to drop it all off in the boat and see how we get on.
02:56But then it was all changed because Masterchef got in touch with Pookie, told her she was in the show, so she had to fly home and start filming.
03:03And I was left to move in on my own.
03:05I reckon somebody's heard that we bought a boat and they're helping us celebrate.
03:11I start recording and then they stop. Isn't that bloody typical?
03:27That's apparently a laugh at that minute that is.
03:30Well, literally, the next day, my sister's ex-husband turned up with his new partner and at the same time,
03:59the owner of the repair dock rang me and said there was some weather coming in so we must get the boat out of its marina spot and up into the yard.
04:09And so we just about managed to do that with a few millimetres spare and we had a lovely spot overlooking the rest of the harbour.
04:18But not for long.
04:24Guys, it is absolutely burning out here.
04:28And I've got alarms going off now but I don't know what they are.
04:32What the hell is that?
04:33Oh, the bilge.
04:35You reckon?
04:36You reckon?
04:37You reckon?
04:38You reckon?
04:39I told you I'm going off because there's a lightning storm.
04:53Flashing like mad.
04:55Have a look.
04:57Try and put some lights on.
04:59some light, son.
05:04First week of owning it, all of a sudden...
05:11Holy hell.
05:15This is...oh my...oh god.
05:21Literally...oh my god, you can't even see
05:27out the back window.
05:31Five minutes a day, you can see across that bay.
05:33Now, it's glowing.
05:36An absolute holly.
05:51It's glowing, an absolute hooligan.
05:53The alarms are going off in the bilge.
05:55You can probably see the rain there.
05:58It is horrendous.
06:01I'm on blocks in the middle of a yard.
06:06And I'll be honest, I've got no water in the boat at all.
06:10And the boat is probably not the most secure thing on some lumps of wood.
06:20I used to be able to see, only five minutes ago, I could see across there.
06:31I could see all the lights, I could see all the boats.
06:34Now I can't see anything.
06:35I can't even see the next...
06:37I can't even see the next...
06:38I can't even see the next boat there.
06:40That is er...
06:42That's only 30 foot away.
06:44My laptop doesn't fit in the oven.
06:49So er...
06:50I'm not sure that's going to work if I get hit by lightning.
06:52And I don't know what the light of it is because...
06:53Over there you can probably make out...
06:55Erm...
06:56The lights in a huge crane facility.
06:57Erm...
06:58Wow...
06:59This is...
07:00One heck of a storm.
07:01If I can see across the other side.
07:04Wow, this is the boat yard.
07:07I can just about make out that trawler.
07:09That's a big one.
07:10I don't know what the light of it is because...
07:12I don't know what the light of it is because...
07:13Over there you can probably make out...
07:14Erm...
07:15The lights in a huge crane facility.
07:17Erm...
07:18Wow...
07:19This is one heck of a storm.
07:20If I can see across the other side.
07:22Wow, this is the boat yard.
07:24I can just about make out that trawler.
07:27That's not like...
07:31Years...
07:33Next to us.
07:38Now it's hailstoning.
07:43I mean...
07:44Fuck a hailstoning.
07:45I don't know what to do about this alarm in the bilge.
07:57I made sure the bilge lights are on.
08:00And I think I've got an automatic bilge pump.
08:03Let me have a look.
08:05Searchlight.
08:06There, there, there, there.
08:07Autopilot.
08:08Water, starboard.
08:09Water.
08:10Water.
08:15Whoa.
08:16Okay.
08:17Front, port, starboard.
08:23Night lights.
08:24Night lights?
08:25What the heck's the night lights?
08:26I don't even know what a night light is.
08:27I'm going to almost shout.
08:28This is getting ridiculous.
08:29Whoa.
08:30What the hell is this?
08:31Uh, bilge port and bilge starboard are on.
08:33Um.
08:34I'm still getting this alarm.
08:36I'm going to run down here.
08:39I don't know why the bilge should be filling up with water.
08:43Just because it's raining.
08:44Alright.
08:45Alright.
08:46Alright.
08:47Alright.
08:48Alright.
08:49Alright.
08:50I'm still getting this alarm going on down here I don't know why the bilge
08:59should be filling up with water just because it's raining
09:02alright alright
09:10I must know a bilge pump in summer yeah that's a bloody bilge pump
09:20is it outside? it's outside I'm just going to get soaked to try to do this
09:27I'm going to get a towel, I don't think there's a bilge pump button inside
09:43that did not take long to get in there
09:46what's that little switch?
09:49what's that little switch?
09:54ok, that's not helping
09:58why the fuck am I just walking from this?
10:04ah, what?
10:08oh, well that's
10:10the wrong window I didn't fucking check
10:12let's check
10:16that's quite tall now
10:21alright, there's no bilge switch in here
10:23no, there's no
10:25so that's why that's running down to there
10:30alright, alright, alright
10:31alright, alright, alright
10:33I don't really want to go out in this bloody weather
10:36in your t-shirt and pants
10:40flip a bilge switch that I don't actually think is going to bloody well work
10:44alright, let's go
10:47oh, shit it's freezing
10:48oh, shit it's freezing
10:51ah, ah, ah, ah
10:57yeah, what do you want so?
11:03pulled both the bloody bilge switches and did absolutely sorrow
11:06and I'm soaked to the skin
11:11um
11:13oh, come on
11:15that'd be easier than this
11:16where's the manual?
11:19oh, everyone
11:22I was out there for 30 milliseconds
11:24what happens
11:42well
11:44it's fun, isn't it?
11:45there's not really a lot in there
11:47if you go out
11:49tell you what
11:51I do not like being
11:54on some lumps of wood
11:58in a very light boat
12:01in this wind
12:03it looks like it's easing back at the minute
12:06I'm going to have to turn that off, aren't I?
12:09I'm going to get wet again
12:11right, back in a minute
12:13oh, shit it's freezing again
12:18oh, I have to get a windscreen marker there
12:21that is terrible
12:23that is terrible
12:25that is terrible
12:29Jesus
12:31well, folks
12:33I've been up since 4
12:35because
12:37I got rudely awoken by
12:40mosquitoes
12:41and
12:44about a hectic time
12:46we got the boat
12:48he didn't give us a key to fill the water up
12:50so we ran out of water
12:51so we got no water in the boat
12:53he didn't tell me how to start the engines
12:55eventually I got power to the engines
12:58as soon as I got power to the engines
13:00about 8 hours later
13:01I was asked to move the boat
13:04out of a really tight space
13:06in the marina
13:09and over towards an even tighter space
13:12in the dock
13:14so that I can have the new copper coat
13:17oh, it's now
13:19it's still flashing with lightning outside
13:21but it's getting quieter
13:23I don't feel like I have to shout
13:25that was horrendous
13:27and
13:29this is my first night
13:31on the hard
13:33my third night
13:35on the boat
13:37as an owner
13:39oh, it's quarter to seven
13:41excellent
13:43right, okay
13:44I will see you guys later
13:45because I've got a lot of mopping up soon
13:47the devastation next day
13:49was clear to see
13:50with loads of trees in the area being brought down
13:52the ladder they had given me
13:54actually got blew into the water
13:55yesterday they brought me another one
13:57I've had the boat a week now
13:59and
14:01another day
14:03what have been up
14:04I've been up since
14:064 o'clock again
14:08as it was
14:10trying to make sure that the midges
14:12didn't eat me to death
14:14so, I went online
14:16and I bought myself a big muslin
14:19sheet
14:21that I'm going to put at the bottom of the bed
14:23and then
14:25when I've got that hung up
14:27I'm going to kill everything in the area
14:29and then hopefully I'll get a night's sleep
14:31so I've been shopping today
14:33bought myself a new pair of flip-flops
14:35because the last flip-flops cleared off
14:37with the ladder
14:39when we had the storm
14:41so the flip-flops that I wore three times
14:43disappeared completely
14:45together with the doormat that we bought
14:47for the boat
14:49that all went over into the ocean
14:51during those storms
14:53so, then what have I done?
14:55I've had
14:57I've been WD-40ing these
14:59little turn knobs
15:01that
15:03I'll put a picture up in the corner to show you what I mean
15:05I don't know what they're called
15:07but anyway, the locker knob things
15:09I've been WD-ing them to try and make sure
15:13but the main one really though
15:17is
15:19I didn't know how to divert
15:22the toilet doings
15:25from going down below the boat
15:28instead of into the black water tank
15:31I'm pretty sure that the previous owner told me
15:34that red to red was danger
15:37but that didn't really make much of a difference to me
15:40I couldn't work out what danger meant
15:43and I suppose danger really means
15:45it goes over the side
15:47so yeah, he'd left them all going over to the side
15:51and
15:53well
15:59I don't think I'm able
16:01as much as I'd like to
16:03I don't think I'm able to disconnect the sink
16:05from pouring all the water out on the poor blokes below
16:07so
16:09what I'm going to try and do in future is to
16:11only use the sink when I know they're not under it
16:14because
16:16I know it's only washing up water
16:18and I know they're used to working in dirty conditions
16:20because it's filthy out there
16:22yeah, but they still don't need that do they?
16:24so I've bought a lot of knives, forks and spoons today
16:27lovely lovely lovely
16:29so we're going to have guests
16:31and some sharp knives
16:33and a few of the bits and bobs
16:34and I'm all kitted out
16:36so this is the first week that was
16:38see you in a bit
16:40bye
16:42well, here is another waste of money
16:44I went out and bought myself a flag
16:46turns out it's the wrong one
16:48I've got to buy a British Enzyme one
16:50which is a
16:52a union jack with a
16:54in the corner and the rest of it's red
16:56apparently
16:58that's what woke me up this morning
17:00hi guys
17:01yeah
17:03it's half five and I'm back awake
17:05and
17:07been up about half an hour
17:09because the fridge was bugging me
17:12I don't know where to put it basically
17:16and it's annoying me that I'm sat at the dining table
17:19with the laptop
17:21because I have to use the laptop quite often
17:24and really I should be sat over there
17:26the fridge is in the way
17:28you see what the previous owner did
17:31was
17:33they took
17:36the cupboard in the corner there next to the cooker
17:39and
17:41they took out the fridge
17:43that was there
17:44and turned it into a cupboard
17:46which on the face of it is probably not a bad idea
17:48because they obviously thought it wasn't big enough for the two of them
17:50now
17:52what they did do though
17:54is to turn
17:55you can't really see it it's out there
17:57what they did do though is turn the outside locker
18:00into like a
18:02I guess you'd call it a drinks fridge
18:04although to be fair
18:06it really works well
18:07it holds around six degrees almost all the time
18:09so
18:11down in one of the holes we've got a big chest freezer
18:14that's also being used as a fridge
18:16where we put all our food
18:17which
18:19because of Pook's cooking
18:21I think that's probably not a bad thing
18:22because she does like to have a lot of food on board
18:25well I don't actually know that
18:27because she's never been on board
18:30yet
18:32but I imagine she would like a lot of food
18:34so the outside for drinks
18:36good
18:38the inside one big chest freezer
18:40good sorry big chest fridge
18:42good
18:44freezer
18:45freezer
18:46but where I'm even going to put it
18:49I'm really not sure
18:51but it really can't stay where it is
18:53because it's getting right on my nerves
18:55I don't like sitting at a dining table working
18:59I still have to work
19:01so I'd much prefer to be sat over there
19:05at a proper desk
19:07so that's been playing on my mind
19:10also I did notice that the last
19:13people had dehumidifiers
19:16there are two of them
19:18only little things
19:20but eye cabinet at the moment
19:22feels damp
19:26I've had the fan going all night
19:28I've had the extractor fan going through the
19:30I don't know what you call a ceiling window
19:33is it
19:35hatch
19:37that's the word
19:39Christ
19:41ok
19:43I've got a fan in the hatch window
19:45so that's been going all night and trying to suck the air out
19:48that's really not going to work
19:50long term
19:51I'll have to either get bitten
19:52or find another way of controlling the midges
19:55what do you call them
19:57these whatever you call them
19:59they're all stiff
20:02right
20:04ok
20:06the boat is an absolute mess
20:08because of
20:10I guess seagulls
20:12and because my bottom's being painted
20:15I don't think
20:17I'm allowed to actually wash this down
20:19let's have a look
20:20see how they're getting on
20:22I think we're a bit disturbed
20:24by the fact that my kitchen sink
20:26doesn't have the option of going into black water for some reason
20:30or if it has I can't find it
20:32so I think they get a bit worried in the morning
20:34when they see a lot of water on the floor
20:37ok
20:39so
20:40this is rubbed back
20:44lots of little speckles that
20:46were not apparent
20:47it's all very smooth
20:49but look
20:51see there's water coming out of that hole there for some reason
20:53I don't know what that's all about
20:57you know folding props
20:58they seem to be working well
20:59although they don't look the nice colour that they were a week ago
21:02I'm going to try and get them to paint this bit as well
21:04I've heard that's a good idea
21:07but this is all very smooth now
21:12it was on the other side where we had
21:14in fact
21:15no it wasn't
21:16it was here
21:18it was here where some of the
21:20some of these here were like little lumps
21:22but
21:24there's actually more lumps elsewhere
21:26than er
21:28well than there are
21:30where I thought the lumps were
21:31but er
21:32it all looks er
21:36it all looks fairly well prepped
21:38I'm hoping
21:40erm
21:42looking down from
21:44you know
21:46can't see any bulges and
21:48whatever
21:50and actually I found in the spare parts bin
21:53a replacement one of them
21:54so
21:56when that er
21:58when that finally gives up the ghost
22:00I've got something to replace it with
22:01so that's quite good
22:03right
22:04let's see how we get on
22:06right
22:07erm
22:08another problem
22:10I've got this erm
22:11Victron
22:12digital multi-control
22:14is that for me?
22:19maybe not
22:21ok
22:23I've got this erm
22:25Victron digital multi-control
22:28and he said
22:30it's automatic you don't need to worry about a thing
22:32so I've left it on on
22:34and the inverter's been on
22:36the problem is now I'm on the hard
22:38erm
22:39we decided to plug into the mains
22:41the minute we plug into the mains
22:43erm
22:44these lights came on
22:45first of all
22:46the mains light came on
22:47and so did the bulk
22:49now I didn't know what the bulk meant
22:51so I just left it
22:53and then when this got to 100%
22:57suddenly this started to come on as well
22:58float
22:59I've got no clue what float means
23:01I've got no clue what absorption means
23:03and no clue what bulk means
23:05so I went on the internet
23:07and I found error indications
23:09and I couldn't find anything that said
23:10mains bulk and float
23:12all lit up
23:14so I turned it to off
23:16and it all shut down
23:17this went down to nothing
23:19and everything went down
23:21so then I turned it back on
23:22because I thought that obviously isn't the right thing to do
23:24so then the mains light came on
23:26and the bulk light came on
23:28so I turned this down to
23:31around 8
23:33as is now
23:34and then the absorption light came on
23:36so I've got
23:38no clue what's happening with this
23:39at all
23:41well they don't mean a lot
23:43so erm
23:45that's today's erm
23:47little challenge
23:53okay
23:55well I'm on the almost daily commute now
23:58to the shops
24:00had quite a stressful time
24:02trying to find my key
24:04I actually thought I'd left my key in the
24:07in the boat
24:09I nearly said motorhome
24:11erm
24:13spent over half an hour searching high and low
24:16and eventually found it
24:18right next to the Buddha
24:20right where I was sat originally
24:22I was
24:24a bit annoyed at myself
24:25for being so stupid
24:27but never mind
24:28especially his life
24:31so this is Garda Heiner anyway
24:35well today's job was taking down the TV
24:39it was on a
24:41tiny little
24:43bracket
24:44but it must have some reinforcing behind here
24:46because I can't see that
24:48sitting on a foam cord
24:49hole
24:52and actually er
24:53staying there very long
24:54so we took down the old TV
24:56and I bought this new TV
24:58and I thought
24:59well give myself a bracket
25:01put it on the wall over here
25:03I can maybe turn it
25:04towards the kitchen
25:06I don't think it will turn all the way to face out the back
25:08but you know
25:10whatever
25:11and I thought I'm going to put the bracket just here
25:14and when I looked I thought
25:15I'll double check
25:16so when I looked I thought
25:17yep
25:18there's a gap there
25:19not a problem at all
25:21but the guy's just come and he said
25:22yeah but the problem is
25:23is when the door closes
25:25yeah the rest of the frame comes past
25:28and then you're down to about
25:32I don't know
25:33half a centimetre
25:34not even quite
25:35not even a fingers thickness
25:37in fact it's probably even less there
25:40so we umdenaad
25:42but
25:43he came up with a brainwave
25:44what he's going to do
25:45is he's going to make a plate
25:46for the back here
25:47to support the wall
25:49and he's going to weld on some bolts
25:51and put the bolts through the wall
25:52and because it's welded on
25:53it'll be on this side
25:55I won't have anything
25:56I'll only have like about a 3mm bit of plate
25:58on the back of that
26:00and the bracket
26:04really then
26:06should just um
26:07bolt onto that
26:09result
26:10so uh
26:11yeah
26:12these people in Cartagena
26:13they're doing me
26:14uh
26:15doing me proud so far
26:16they've done quite well
26:20what else?
26:21well
26:22I need a shade
26:23but apart from that
26:25um
26:26I've owned the boat now
26:27for
26:28nine days
26:30um
26:31and
26:32I found this
26:33I couldn't work out what it was
26:34but I think it's just a
26:35it's like a velour
26:38um
26:39mattress cover
26:40bizarre
26:41I've only got it on my bed
26:42and then I found a really long bit of this
26:43and I didn't have a clue
26:44what it was for
26:45and then I thought
26:46ah
26:47it might be used
26:48I can maybe use it
26:49as a
26:50sock
26:51for
26:52um
26:54my
26:55Genoa
26:56which I can't seem to get in the cupboard
26:57in the locker
26:59and
27:00when I measured it out
27:01there was no chance it was going over that
27:02because I thought it might protect it
27:03so in the end
27:05what I did
27:07is
27:12I made it as socks
27:17to my fenders
27:19and they're not very professional
27:20I've just sort of wrapped them over the top
27:22and they seem to be okay
27:25but they seem to do the job
27:26so hopefully
27:27let's see what we get on with
27:29it's the first day of er
27:31getting the hole painted
27:33in the
27:34copper coat
27:35I think they're actually doing this second coat
27:37in the same day
27:38I don't know if that's how you're supposed to do it
27:40but
27:41certainly seems that's the way they're going about it
27:47yeah it's covering that bit though
27:49definitely covered that bit better
27:50this is called Rosita
27:55this is next door to me
27:59it's having er
28:01all its propellers replaced
28:03because they apparently broke
28:05or something
28:07cost several thousands of pounds
28:09they've been stuck here for a few weeks
28:11and that's the tender
28:13that's the tender for the big ship
28:15would you believe
28:16that's just a small ship dinghy
28:17anyway
28:20back onto ours
28:22and you can see it's had the first coat
28:25it's definitely covered better the second time round
28:27although it's still a bit
28:29still a bit
