00:00The young Norwegian golfer Viktor Hovland is one of the best and most popular figures

00:04on the PGA Tour. With six professional wins and a Ryder Cup appearance already under his

00:09belt, his future looks very bright indeed. Let's get to know him a little bit better

00:15here with these eight facts. Born in Oslo, Norway in 1997, Hovland began playing golf

00:22at the age of 11 after his father, who worked in America, brought in some clubs. His dad

00:27taught him how to play and he regularly practiced at an indoor driving range in

00:31Oslo. He learned English by watching movies including a lot of historical

00:35dramas such as Lincoln and Amistad. Hovland attended Oklahoma State University, the

00:41same college as Ricky Fowler, hence why he wears a lot of orange. He was a teammate

00:46of fellow young star Matthew Wolfe who plays on tour currently and Hovland still

00:51lives in Stillwater, Oklahoma today. Hovland won the US Amateur in 2018, becoming

00:56the first Norwegian to win that event in the process. This earned him

01:01invitations to the 2019 Masters, Open and US Open. At that 2019 US Open he

01:07finished in a tie for 12th with a total of 280. This was the lowest score ever

01:12recorded by an amateur in the tournament's 119 year history, beating

01:17Jack Nicklaus' 282 from 1960. He turned pro as the world's number one ranked

01:22amateur after winning the Low Amateur Honours at the Masters and the US Open. He

01:27became the first man since Matt Kutcher in 1998 to achieve that feat. When it

01:32comes to music, Victor Hovland is a big fan of the metal genre. His favourite bands are

01:37Metallica, System of a Down and Tool. In September 2019, Hovland equaled Bob Estes' 1983

01:45PGA Tour record of 17 consecutive rounds in the 60s. Hovland would then go on to break

01:50that record which now sits at 19 consecutive rounds in the 60s and that's

01:55a record that will take some beating. His favourite golfer growing up was Sergio

01:59Garcia and sticking with his enjoyment of all things Spanish, Hovland's favourite
