00:00Snap out of it, Rich. Fonz is gonna jump over a shark.
00:02Oh, I don't get it.
00:03Welcome to Miss Mojo, and today we're looking at the craziest TV backstories that turned out to be bunk and the ones that turned out to be real.
00:11It's just a mistake. Didn't mean anything. Right?
00:17Number 5 Myth
00:18Seth MacFarlane resurrected Brian Griffin due to fan pressure.
00:22Family Guy
00:23After 12 seasons, the series creator apparently wanted to make a major change.
00:28The Griffins' beloved anthropomorphic dog Brian is killed in a devastating car accident.
00:34I'm so sorry, Mrs. Griffin, but Brian's injuries are just too severe for us to save him.
00:39I don't know how much longer he has, but I suggest that you all go in and say your goodbyes.
00:43Creator and voice actor Seth MacFarlane knew the moment would be a shocker, but he didn't realize he was kicking a hornet's nest.
00:51Fans revolted and grieved as if their own pet had died.
00:54Petitions were started to bring the character back.
00:57You find the man who did this, you bring him to justice.
01:01You make sure this angel child didn't die for nothing.
01:03Ma'am, Brian's a dog.
01:04You showed worldwide you became a cop.
01:06Two episodes later, the show reversed course and Brian was resurrected through a time travel storyline,
01:12leading many to think the fan reaction was responsible.
01:15MacFarlane dispelled that rumor, saying that this was the plan all along.
01:18After all, it's not like they could have written and animated Brian's return episode in just a couple of weeks.
01:24You know, a lot of other families would have just gotten a different dog and moved on.
01:27Oh, we could never do something like that, Brian.
01:31Number 5, True.
01:32John Amos was fired from Good Times for questioning producers.
01:36Good Times.
01:37For the first three seasons, patriarch James Evans Sr. steered his family through storylines about poverty, violence, and job security.
01:45In the heartbreaking two-part fourth season premiere, James is written out when his character is killed in a car accident offscreen.
01:52My mom, what's wrong?
01:57Thelma?
01:58Michael, now there are some things you don't understand.
02:01When actor John Amos left the series in 1976, producers initially explained his absence by saying he had gone on to pursue other roles.
02:09This turned out to be a cover.
02:11The writers, some of them, became incensed that I was of the opinion that I knew more about a black father than they did.
02:20Amos, along with co-lead Esther Rolle, were becoming displeased with the show's depiction of an African-American family, particularly the antics of the eldest son, J.J. Evans.
02:31In fact, Amos had confrontations with several writers on the show.
02:35Executive producer Norman Lear informed him he was being fired ahead of the fourth season.
02:40I let that register for a minute.
02:42He said, you're still there?
02:43I said, yeah, I'm here, Norman.
02:44Well, don't you want to say something?
02:46He said, what can I say?
02:47It's your show.
02:48Have a good life.
02:49Click.
02:50And that was it.
02:51I was going to be, you know, recalcitrant to the end.
02:54You know, you won't get me to roll over and cry for the job.
02:57No, forget you, man.
02:58Number four myth.
03:00Zsa Zsa Gabor's saucy appearance.
03:02The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.
03:04For years, Johnny Carson was renowned for his wicked double entendres.
03:09One such alleged one-liner involved actress Zsa Zsa Gabor, who reportedly brought her cat
03:14along for her guest spot on The Tonight Show.
03:17Carson's alleged response to a seemingly innocuous question became legend.
03:22She said to you, do you want to pet my pussy?
03:28And my son said that you said, I'd love to if you'd remove that damn cat.
03:34During her 1989 appearance on the show, actress Jane Fonda decided to clear things up for everyone
03:39and ask the host about it outright.
03:42Carson denies it.
03:43I tell you, I...
03:45Is it true?
03:45No, I think I would recall that.
03:48People have tried locating this clip, but never found it, and doubt it ever really happened at all.
03:53The fact Carson managed to stay on the air seems like further proof that it's a fabrication.
03:59Are there any questions?
04:00Yeah!
04:00Oh, shut up.
04:04Number four, true.
04:06Susan was written off because she was difficult to work with.
04:10Seinfeld.
04:10Marriage with George Costanza was never going to work.
04:14Was I going to marry her?
04:15Was she going to leave me?
04:16Was I going to leave her?
04:17Those are the only three possibilities, right?
04:19That's the only...
04:20They found a fourth.
04:22Seinfeld was a show about people who refused to change and grow.
04:26George's engagement to Susan Ross ended in the most Seinfeld way possible.
04:31After settling for cheap glue to mail their wedding invitations, Susan dies from a toxic reaction.
04:37I'm so sorry, George.
04:43Yeah, me too.
04:44Poor Lily.
04:48For a long time, rumors persisted that the actress who played her, Heidi Swedberg, was written out because the cast didn't like her.
04:56This wasn't the whole story.
04:58However, Jason Alexander confirmed that he found her hard to play off of, as did the rest of the cast.
05:04This contributed to the decision to kill the character off.
05:07Alexander insists Swedberg is a good performer, but the chemistry didn't work.
05:12I've seen her do other things where I thought, that's really good.
05:15There was something about, just something in the dynamic between her as Susan and me as George, I couldn't ever comfortably find my way.
05:24And it created something wonderful.
05:26So maybe that's exactly what it was meant to be.
05:28The Doctor may be an interdimensional time traveler in constant battle for the fate of the universe, but generally, he's not a cold-blooded killer.
05:51In a case of the Mandela Effect that only afflicts Doctor Who fans, the sixth Doctor is misremembered as more vicious than his counterparts.
05:59You even managed to burn dinner last night.
06:02I have never said I was perfect.
06:04If you recall, last night I was supposed to have a cold supper.
06:09That was an unfortunate accident.
06:11In a scene from the episode Vengeance on Varos, we see the Doctor accidentally scaring two of his captors and causing them to fall to their deaths in an acid bath.
06:20Some viewers swear he pushed one of them.
06:22Now that we have the benefit of going back and watching the scene, we can see that's not the case.
06:27He doesn't do much to save them from an agonizing death, though.
06:31Ross and Rachel had one of the most iconic will-they-or-won't-they storylines in sitcom history.
06:52One of the most famous scenes on Friends sees Ross marrying Emily, but accidentally saying Rachel's name.
06:58It was the cliffhanger that had everyone talking.
07:01It actually came to the writers late in the game.
07:04We knew Rachel was going, and I remember we were banging our heads against what was she gonna do.
07:10Like, was she gonna stop it?
07:11Actor David Schwimmer had made that exact slip-up in a previous scene, mixing up the characters' names.
07:17Writer Greg Malins describes the aha moment he had in response.
07:21Noting how they had no idea how Rachel should factor into Ross' wedding,
07:25the writer revealed that Schwimmer's mistake was the solution they needed.
07:29His line was to come in and say,
07:31Emily, the cab is downstairs waiting.
07:33Something like that.
07:34And he walked in and said,
07:36Rachel, the cab is downstairs-
07:39Ah, s***.
07:39Okay, sorry.
07:40Let me take it again.
07:41And he went out.
07:43And I remember I was standing next to David Crane.
07:44I said, that's-that's it.
07:46Number two myth.
07:47The Simpsons predicted 9-11.
07:50The Simpsons.
07:51Much has been made of the long-running animated comedy's seemingly eerie ability to predict future events.
07:57While the writers of the show always sought to make some commentary about what the future might hold,
08:02a 1997 episode features a bizarre image.
08:05Dad, you got a letter from the city of New York.
08:08Pfft.
08:08Throw it away.
08:09Nothing good has ever come out of New York City.
08:11Lisa Simpson is trying to convince her family to take a trip to the Big Apple.
08:15She holds up a $9 brochure that features the Twin Towers,
08:19and viewers note that it looks like it's spelling out 9-11.
08:23We could all go with the bus company's special Super Sitter Fair.
08:26Nine bucks?
08:27This one's on me.
08:28Great!
08:29We're all going to New York!
08:31Some of the more fanciful internet users even insist it's evidence of a full-blown conspiracy.
08:37In reality, it's just an unfortunate coincidence blown way out of proportion.
08:41Can we come back next to your dad?
08:45We'll see, honey.
08:48Number 2 True
08:49An episode of Pokemon made children sick.
08:52Pokemon
08:53On December 16th, 1997, the episode Denno Senchi Porygon aired
08:58and suddenly became the subject of intense public scrutiny.
09:02A climactic scene at the end of the episode sees Pikachu using an attack
09:15illustrated with quick flashing lights.
09:17This posed a problem for photosensitive young viewers.
09:20Over 600 Japanese children were taken to hospitals with illnesses after the episode aired.
09:25Often those affected had no history of epilepsy.
09:29More children had fits when excerpts were replayed on the news.
09:32Doctors said victims were shocked into a kind of hypnotic trance.
09:35Reported symptoms were as varied as seizures to nausea,
09:39but the overall explanation appears to have been a mass hysteria that rolled into the days following the episode's airing.
09:46This snowballed into a panic over the show itself,
09:49leading to a months-long hiatus for the program and a permanent shelving of the offending episode.
09:54Number 1 Myth
10:01Happy Days Jumped the Shark
10:03Happy Days
10:04Shark? That is the stupidest thing I've ever heard.
10:07Stupid, yes. Also dumb, but it's something I gotta do.
10:10Ask anybody and they'll say this nostalgic 70s sitcom was basically undone by the fonds jumping over a live shark while on water skis.
10:18Since this now-infamous episode, the phrase jump the shark has been used to denote a show past its prime and on the way to cancellation.
10:27Ironically, though, this episode aired less than halfway through the series' run.
10:31We did it!
10:33Yeah, yeah, you did the challenge.
10:35Yeah.
10:36But what did you really win?
10:38Outlandish as the scene may be, Happy Days hadn't jumped the shark at all.
10:42In fact, the show was still at its peak as far as ratings go, and would run for multiple seasons afterwards.
10:48Now, you have to understand, we were number one for like six years after that, so nobody else thought we'd jump the shark.

11:12Curb Your Enthusiasm Exonerated a Murder Suspect
11:16Curb Your Enthusiasm
11:18Most of the time, Larry David's comedy series doesn't look on humanity that fondly.
11:23But, lo and behold, the show about a people-hating misanthrope ended up saving an innocent man.
11:29As we were heading back to our seats, we noticed that there were some cameras blocking our aisle.
11:34So I come into the room, and within a minute of me entering the room, the lawyer jumps up, because there he is, that's the guy.
11:39John Canelan was charged with murder, but he swore he was at a Dodgers game at the time.
11:44His lawyers decided to see if any footage of the game had captured him in the crowd.
11:49I went to the media organization and asked them if there was any video that could have been shot on that particular night.
11:54And they looked through some logs, and they saw that a production company had shot there that night, and it was actually in our section.
12:00And they gave me the phone number.
12:02Luckily, Curb Your Enthusiasm had filmed portions of a Season 4 episode, The Carpool Lane, at Dodger Stadium that same day.
12:10Out of 40,000 attendees, their cameras happened to capture Catalan literally feet away from the show's star.
12:17I remember calling Todd, and he was just like, I could picture his face with a big Kool-Aid smile on his face, you know.
12:23And he was just like, you're on the tape, you're on the tape.
12:27And I just, I jumped up, I let go of the phone, and just, you know, everybody was like, what the...
12:33After some difficulty with the prosecutors, the charges against Catalan were dropped.
12:37Did any of these behind-the-scenes stories surprise you?
12:40Tell us in the comments.
12:41It's a strange universe out there.
12:43Maybe Larry's just tied into it more than we know he is.
12:46Do you agree with our picks?
