00:23i love the way you guys have woven uh horror with indian mythology because that's where i think
00:29truly our strength lies rather than copying the west right do you believe that you know honestly
00:34i think as our our country has such fabulous culture we just have such a colorful uh oral
00:41tradition uh and uh you know all our stories are amazing you know long before uh you know the marvel
00:49found their comics we had all these stories you know they were just they just wore different clothes
00:56in our stories so yeah each and every one of them is amazing i love the fact that we have a divine
01:01feminine and uh yeah we speak about ma as and she's so so very powerful that that whatever happens it
01:09doesn't matter you know like it uh when when the entire world when the gods cannot face it anymore
01:16they have to call on the mother goddess to come and save them and to you know make it all okay so
01:22i love the fact that we have that and uh that is unique to our culture so yes super happy with uh
01:30with the fact that we are making a mythology my mythology horror uh for the first time and i'm
01:37surprised that it's for the first time to be honest that somebody hasn't done it before very very happy
01:43that um you know we've come together we've made a good film we really genuinely have made a good film
01:49and uh and that's been our aim always um and i have to give kudos to mr ajay devgan for just being
01:56such a fantastic producer i'll go on record to say that that he's yeah i have to i mean like you know
02:03what i love about the movie is the it opens with normalizing periods in a in a trailer which i don't
02:14often see you said it very nicely just let's wait for a hotel let's find you a restroom etc is that
02:20one of the main parts of this movie it normalizes topics that are perhaps that has some stigma well
02:27i don't think we set out to do that i don't think we set out to do that but yes it is one of the one
02:34parts of the parts of the film where uh yeah and and and and i think that is pretty much i mean the
02:41way we've put it is that yes it's it's you know so normal to all of us and and when women are
02:47discussing it between themselves and we like we crack jokes on it don't we we crack jokes and we
02:52we make fun of it and it's just such a normal thing and why can't we speak about it in that same
03:00vein when uh you know when we show it on screen as well nobody's going to be embarrassed right 50
03:05percent of them are women anyways so one thing i have to say is that you i think you epitomize a
03:11fierce mother i don't know i just have this great gut instinct saying that you are a fierce mom
03:16when pushed to a corner you turn into this tigress mom is that correct and did you bring that to the
03:22movie as well definitely no two ways about it and i i think every mother is i i would not like
03:29to own that particular patent and say that it's mine and mine alone i think every mother is
03:35all mothers as soon as they become mothers have this uh you know i don't know its instinct or whether
03:41it's a superpower inside them that you know makes them almost inhuman in the amount of energy that
03:48the child consumes uh physically depleted emotionally depleted sleep deprived uh hormonally
03:56compromised in every which way and uh you know we still manage to you know go through the first
04:03two years three years and and retain our sanity and uh you know children have grown up by that time
04:09so and you're like yeah they're alive they're thriving they're eating well yeah and they're
04:14minding their p's and q's so we're fine with that we've done decent job on it listen horror genre in
04:19india is a very tricky one i feel we sometimes we haven't really cracked it but then we look at
04:24shaitan for instance did tremendously well do you think there is a gap there because the world loves
04:30a good horror movie i have to tell you the arab markets right one of the genres when we look at
04:35which movies did well the genres it's always harder arabs love a horror movie irrespective of where
04:40it comes from even our arab movies sometimes are so do you think we have a long gap to cover like
04:46is bollywood long gap but i just think that if we do a horror film in today's day and age it
04:52requires a lot it's a lot it's not just you can't just think that i'm going to make a horror and
04:58you know i i can have no production value or you know i can make it cheaply and sell it off and
05:04because it's a horror it'll do well no it can't be like that i think we that time is over if you put
05:10out a product today it has to have a certain um it has to have a certain level you have to be very
05:15very con you have to be very very conscious about the quality of the product that you are putting
05:22out whether it is a horror whether it is action whether it is drama whatever you need a tight script
05:27you need the you need you need like like you know really cool action or whatever you need excellent
05:33vfx all of it and i'm very very proud to say that the vfx of this particular film uh is is
05:40absolutely amazing and done by our company as well so super happy with it yeah i've seen it and it's
05:47and you've seen it you've seen it in the trailer as well but the movie is infinitely scarier and uh so
05:53yeah we're super happy with the quality of the product and um and kudos to ajadevan for you know
06:00uh being a super producer and making sure that whatever comes out of the company always comes out at a
06:08certain level right i feel this movie also bats for women i mean it is dealing with let's say human
06:14sacrifice etc keeping that aside do you think this movie also we we walk away knowing that women are
06:20fierce there is a bit of conditioning where we say we are the weaker sex right so do you think we
06:25absolutely and in fact there's a scene i'll i'll talk about this because i can talk about it um uh you
06:32know there's a scene in the film where the where the evil or the doitto comes out to her and he says
06:38you're going to fight me do you think you can fight me do you know who i am i am i can you see me how
06:46big am i how strong am i and what are you you're just a weak woman what do you think you will be able
06:52to uh will you do you think you will be able to fight and uh yeah so i do think that it is about uh
06:59you know finding the the tagline is basically the fight between evil and faith it's not between evil
07:08and good it's evil and faith and that faith is in the mother and in yourself as well you have to believe
07:18in yourself enough and you have to believe in her enough for it to work so i think um that's that's
07:27really the the crux of the film i love it and i like the fact that this is a home production you said
07:33the special effects has been done by your it is one giant home is it a great idea to work with your
07:39husband i know you have acted with him in his productions etc but do you still with this kind of
07:43knowledge that you bring to the table kajal would you recommend that husband and wife working
07:48together is it a great formula for success absolutely and i think we've been married for so
07:52long i think that tag of oh i can't work with my husband and all just doesn't work anymore
07:58i mean like he's like 26 years down the line we're like okay if i have an issue i you know i'll sort it
08:05out or he has an issue he'll sort it and be you know we'll we'll sort it out so i so i'm most of the
08:13times on sets we're both super super professional we are so and we are generally you know very like
08:21time bound obsessed with work when we're working so i think bollywood is going through a very
08:26interesting phase kajal you have seen it all but do you think we don't know what works and what
08:31doesn't work anymore i'm surprised by the movies i like seriously and i'm like i didn't expect to like
08:36that a series for instance do you as a consumer as well as an artist what's your take on it
08:41are you guys flying in blind at some point you know honestly i feel that we are always flying blind
08:48i mean we may say that we have the the the makings of a potpoiler we may say that we have the formula
08:56right but there is no formula and there never has been a formula i mean through time immemorial
09:02nobody has been ever able to predict predict with any ease which film is going to do well and which
09:09film isn't going to do well there are some films that have just they've just surprised you you don't
09:13understand why they haven't done well because they contain every ingredient that you thought would
09:18make a hit film and at the same time it's just not worked so there is no formula for uh for films and
09:26has not been for time immemorial yes we're a little maybe we may look a little more confused today
09:30but um but i think it also has to do with the i i think as time has gone by as economies have
09:39changed i think the amount of money that you're pumping into a film also has grown in exponentially
09:45it's no longer i think economically efficient to take too many risks right and not a lot of people
09:52can so i think um i think that's where the slightly confused look comes about and women's safety is
09:59such a sensitive topic to all of us when even real life crimes happen uh it may not it's not just a
10:06statistics for most of us right even for news people like when we talk about it i'm like what kind of
10:11macabre murders are happening why is i mean there's so much of crime on the street do you as a mother worry
10:16for your child the reason why i am in dubai kajol is because my child is safe at two in the morning
10:22and one of the reasons why i would want to live here so do you as well think about it as a mom and
10:27these movies perhaps would bring about change a good a good change i hope i think movies can
10:32um influence certain aspects of society most of the times we are just reflecting it
10:39what is happening in society is what your films are showing you we can't uh for for movement to
10:46change for thought process to change takes a lot more than just one film um it's a spark yes but
10:54a spark also has to become a conflagration and also has to become a fire for it to you know work
11:01on that level and and and uh make such a huge change in society i always hope and pray that it happens
11:08somewhere and i'm sure that it will at some point i'm sure that it will at some point but yes uh you
11:14know we all worry about it we all stress about it we all think about it um when my daughter comes back
11:21i'm like you know okay baby wherever you're going you make sure you know that you call me up and uh you
11:26know you make sure that you tell me where you're going what time will you be back all of that and
11:31that's just it's just natural you know it's just something that you just do automatically i don't
11:36know whether there's so much stress attached to it as it's become a little more uh you know routine
11:40that these are the you know safety regulations that we have to follow world over so yeah right
11:47kajal you're a powerhouse performer if you're in a movie we buy tickets for it is that the biggest
11:52goodwill and legacy that you have cultivated with great care like through your movies i have worked
11:58very hard to make sure that each and every film that i do um is something that i can always stand
12:05behind and be proud of so i'm very happy that uh i've been working for nearly 34 years and uh my 33rd
12:14year which was last year was actually the year that i've worked so much and i was like oh my god
12:19this is like it's like a lot i don't think i've worked this much in the last 20 years as much as i
12:23had my 32 i'm very happy about you overworking yourself working yourself to the board means we
12:29get entertained kajal but are you happy with 33 years behind you what a phenomenal journey i have
12:35to say like i was just telling my colleagues i'm interviewing you they were so excited they're like
12:39yes tell us all about it etc so that's the kind of legacy you seem to have built over the years
12:44haven't you with work alone um yes i do i and i have picked and i have chosen with great care that
12:52the films that i put out should have something of me to say to stand up for to speak with um it's it's
13:03not only necessary for you to you know nowadays you have social media and you can say whatever you like
13:08on it and uh you know every day but uh yes i think your work speaks for you much more than uh much more
13:16than anything else so thank you so much that uh i have i am really really grateful for all the love
