00:00So in this lesson we will get started building with Power BI. Obviously I am
00:14assuming that you already know what is Power BI and where it is going to be
00:18useful but this lesson is focusing on better representation of your data with
00:24charts and KPIs and dashboards which are associated with Power BI. We will learn
00:30how Power BI services and applications works together. We will also explore that
00:34how Power BI can make your business more efficient by understanding the data which
00:40is provided into that and then finally we will learn how to create a compelling
00:45visuals and reports with the help of Power BI. Now first if you have a question
00:52in your mind that what is this Power BI. The Power BI is actually a data
00:58visualization tool created by Microsoft which actually allows you to get data
01:03from various data sources and it will allow you to visualize the data. You can
01:08configure your data set, you can configure reports based on the data and you can
01:13also have a properly configured dashboard where you can organize your data charts
01:18KPIs properly. It can allow you to take data from your Excel data sheets or maybe the
01:24XS database or SQL server database. You can also maybe take data from your email
01:30campaign which you have done with the MailerLite or MailChimp kind of tools and
01:35then those historical mail data or the data which is coming from your browsers you
01:41can also take all this data into Power BI and then you can do the
01:45visualization with that. Now if you have a question how can you use Power BI then
01:49there are three different options which are there. You can use Power BI desktop
01:54which is actually a software which you can install in your computers with Windows
01:59operating system and then this will allow you to use all the features of Power BI
02:05inside that. You can also use Power BI services which will be nothing but an
02:11online software as a service. So this is a SaaS service which is available online
02:15which can be directly working inside the browser itself with your Power BI
02:19account and then you can use Power BI services which will give you all the
02:23dashboard kind of facility there where you can integrate your data and then you
02:28can visualize the data as you want. Or you can use the third option which is
02:33actually Power BI mobile apps. These apps will work on Windows, iOS and Android
02:39phones and then inside the phone itself you can have your reports, your graphs, your
02:45charts generated inside that. So which option is preferable for you that is your
02:49choice with the same single Power BI account you can use Power BI with one of
02:55the three options which are visible here. Now before we move forward to Power BI apps
03:00you need to understand the anatomy of the Power BI apps actually because when you see
03:05the complex dashboard of Power BI you need to understand what kind of things
03:09will be associated with that. And in order to understand that thing you need to
03:13understand some terms, some anatomy of Power BI. Like the first one which we have
03:18is visualizations. Visualization is a visual representation of data like charts,
03:23color-coded map or maybe some other interesting things you can create to
03:28represent your data visually. Power BI has all sort of visualization types and
03:33more are coming at all the times. Because Microsoft launched new new version of
03:38Power BI so you can have more flavors of that thing with that. The second one is
03:43actually data set. The data set is a collection of data that Power BI uses to
03:49create visualizations. Data set can also be combination of many different sources
03:54which you can filter and combine to provide a unique collection of data to use
03:59in Power BI. The third one is reports. A Power BI report is a collection of
04:06visualizations that appear together on one or more pages. Just like any other report
04:11you might create for your sales presentation or write for a school
04:16assignment. The same kind of report will be available here and the report in Power BI is
04:21collections of items that are related to each other. When you are ready to share a
04:26single page from a report or a collection of visualizations you create a
04:30dashboard. That's why the next word is dashboard. Much like the dashboard in a
04:35car, a Power BI dashboard is a collection of visuals from a single page that you can
04:41share with others. Often it's a selected group of visuals that provide a quick
04:46insight into the data story you are trying to visualize or you're trying to
04:51present. This one dashboard can maybe give you multiple insights for different
04:56different data sources and the reports which are generated with that at one
05:00single page. The last one is a tile. In Power BI a tile is a single
05:05visualization on a report or a dashboard. It's the rectangular box that holds an
05:11individual visual. In the following image you can see that one tile which is
05:16also surrounded by other tiles. So one tile is representing one particular data and
05:20there are chances that couple of other square square blocks which are surrounded
05:24by that which are also nothing but some other tiles which are giving you
05:27different information on that. After getting familiar with all this anatomy you
05:32will be able to understand Power BI properly and you can generate Power BI dashboards. You
05:38can generate Power BI reports and visualize charts with the help of this
05:42particular link. You can see there is an awesome practical hands-on based
05:47learning which is given by Microsoft on this particular link. If you hit the link you
05:51will be redirected to Microsoft Learn website page which is specially created for Power BI
05:57Bates hands-on. I strongly recommend you to try at least one or two learning paths
06:02which are given in this particular page and then you will be having a crystal clear
06:07clarity on how Power BI works and how you can use it as a data engineer. So in this
06:14lesson you have gone through how we can get started with building with Power BI. We
06:19have understood the terminologies of Power BI and how it is going to be useful for us.
