00:00What stops someone from going to the doctor, even when they're sick?
00:04For Vietnamese migrants in Japan, the answer is complicated.
00:08A recent survey showed that nearly one in five Vietnamese migrants in Japan
00:11believe tuberculosis, or TB, is incurable.
00:15This belief alone makes them over three times more likely to avoid seeking medical help.
00:21But that's not all.
00:22Many turn to family and friends back home for health advice,
00:25using social media, rather than visiting a Japanese clinic.
00:28Language barriers, costs, and not knowing how the health care system works are huge obstacles.
00:35Younger migrants and technical interns face extra challenges,
00:38like unstable jobs and little local support.
00:41In fact, nearly half say they have nobody in Japan to ask for help if they get sick.
00:46To help, public health efforts need to correct misinformation,
00:49offer services in Vietnamese,
00:51and use trusted social channels to guide people to real medical care.
00:55Tackling these barriers is key to improving health for this community.
