Founder of the Widow Support TT group, Soraya Nanan, is calling on the government to increase the financial support offered to people whose spouses have died.

00:08on the government to increase the financial support offered to people whose spouses have
00:12died speaking to reporters during a hamper distribution at the Urpuch Community Center
00:17miss Nanan says the widow's grant is minimal and does nothing to support the cost of rent
00:23child care and other cost of living expenses it's very difficult as a widow to deal with your grief
00:31as well as now become the sole breadwinner of a family a lot of women don't have the resources
00:36a lot of women have never worked at the Indian life they are homemakers and it's very difficult
00:42to get yourself out there back into the workplace miss Nanan says they hope to soon get the A of
00:48the Minister of Social Development to give a voice to the concerns and solution ideas from this group
00:53of the population the NGOs vice president says in many cases widows are even displaced from their
01:00homes and serious threats to safety made from their deceased spouse's relatives so a lot of them are
01:08walking away but there were real cases as we all knew of gun violence resulting on death of widows and
01:16family in a state settlement so no they don't they say it's family matters and go and see and address
01:27it it is so unfortunate it angers me you know like a raging ball because this you know it's it can't be
01:37right you're saying it's family matters but it's not a family that is willing to settle and talk and
01:44and thing and I know where the woman just want to pick up her pieces and move on
