00:00J.J. Spawn comes from, shoots 40 on the front, bogeyed, what was it, three of his first four,
00:08four of his first five, whatever it was, and then comes back with everybody falling back towards
00:13him and plays really to the holes key. That's why I can't really argue about it. The way he played
00:1817 and 18 in the conditions that we had, God bless him. He deserves all the flowers he gets.
00:24But I'm going to ask you the same thing that I asked Smiley Night yesterday. I love the toughness.
00:30I love the hard course. I think it's great. Everyone loves that about the U.S. Open.
00:35I don't need a monsoon on top of that to make it even more ridiculous and challenging.
00:41I think it was a joke what they did to Burns out in the fairway, and they should have.
00:45Now, I don't think it made a difference in him winning the tournament, but I think it's nonsense
00:49they didn't move his ball. And honestly, Keith, I know that the USGA and NBC don't want to do it.
00:54They should have never went back out after that delay, and they should have brought everybody
00:57back Monday morning and finished the back nine. So there's a lot to unpack there, Mike.
01:04And having been there, you know, I mean, it was there was a lot of rain and the break itself.
01:10But let's go with J.J. Spahn and Bobby Mack and those guys that played really, really well
01:15after the, you know, the restart. Congratulations to J.J. Spahn. He birdies the last two holes
01:20in the US Open under very, very difficult conditions. Congratulations to him, his camp,
01:26everyone involved, the electric putt at the end. I mean, I'm sure that's all people will
01:31remember. But, you know, Mike, with a background as a PGA professional, I've run thousands of golf
01:38events and tournaments. And I know that those don't matter to the magnitude of a US Open.
01:41But when you have rain to the level with which they've saturated the golf course, like what
01:47happened at Oakmont, you sit behind closed doors and you have decisions to make. Do we need to force
01:52this thing to happen today because of the day or television or whatever it is? Or can we wait
01:56till there's better playing conditions? And obviously NBC and the USGA wanted it to happen
02:02and finish on Sunday. And I get that. But when you make that decision based upon the golf course,
02:09there's going to be collateral damage. And you don't know where that's going to come.
02:14But having watched now what happened, Sam Burns and Adam Scott ended up being part of the collateral
02:20damage amongst some of these other guys and the lies that they ended up with. I mean, you could tell
02:24there was so much water in the fairway, not just for Sam Burns on 15, but the wedge shot that Adam Scott
02:30hit over the green on 11 would not happen if there wasn't water in between the ball and the grooves.
02:37Right. And he said it himself. He said, you know, like, I felt like I couldn't go down off the turf
02:41because it was so wet. Obviously Burns was upset with the situation on 15. You saw all of these iron
02:48shots from the fairway for right-handed golfers get pulled left. That's water in between the face and
02:54the ball. Right. I mean, it's just, it affected things in a way which brought a lot of luck to the
03:00table. And that's unfortunate. They had a very nice ending. I congratulate JJ Spahn and Bobby Mack because
03:07they played the best of anyone out of the restart, but man, the rest of those guys have a lot of what
03:13ifs.
