00:07Vitor Mateus Teixeira was born in the city of Rio Grande do Sul on March 3, 1927.
00:13He was the son of Saturnino Teixeira, a rural worker, and Ledorina Mateus Teixeira.
00:21He had a brother and two sisters.
00:23At the age of 7, his father died of a heart attack.
00:27Teixeirinha's three brothers were given up for adoption after their father's death.
00:33At the age of 9, while Vitor was at school, Ledorina, who suffered from epilepsy,
00:39was burning trash in a bonfire when he suddenly collapsed after suffering a seizure
00:45and fell into the fire, dying three days later due to the severity of the burns.
00:51The tragedy that occurred with his mother inspired the song Coração de Luto, written by him,
00:57which was later re-recorded by several performers, including the duo Milionário and José Rico,

01:06After his mother's death, Vitor went to live with relatives.

01:42traveling through cities and singing on local radio stations.
01:47After three years of singing on radio stations,
01:50in 1959, Teixeirinha received his first invitation to record an album in São Paulo,
01:57where he produced The Gaucho Heart of Rio Grande,
02:01his first album, released a year later, in 1960.
02:08In the same city, Teixeirinha also recorded the songs
02:11Xote, Solitude and Fight at the Baptism.
02:16In July of the same year, he released Coração de Luto,
02:19which was part of the B-side of the 78 rpm record,
02:23which also accompanied the song Gaúcho de Passo Fundo, on side A.
02:29In 61, Teixeirinha met Mari Terezinha,
02:33while playing on Rádio Bagé.
02:36Mari accompanied Teixeirinha for 22 years.
02:40In the 70s, Teixeirinha's musical career
02:43advised national and international projection,
02:46singing in several Brazilian cities and having toured in Portugal,
02:51Spain and South American countries,
02:54plus 15 shows in the US in '73 and 18 shows in Canada in '75.
03:01As a filmmaker, in 66, he wrote the script for the film Coração de Luto,
03:06based on the song of the same name, released in 67.
03:09Already in 69, he starred in the film Driver Without Limits
03:15and in the same year he founded the production company Teixeirinha Produções Artísticas,
03:19with which he produced 10 films.
03:22As a radio broadcaster, he presented the program Teixeirinha Amanhece Cantando,
03:28which was broadcast by Farropilha and Gaúcha radio stations during the 70s.
03:33Teixeirinha was the record holder for record sales in Brazil,
03:38released more than 50 albums and composed around 1,200 songs.
03:44Official records state that Teixeirinha sold more than 18 million records
03:48and received 13 gold records.
03:52In 83, Maren separated definitively from Teixeirinha,
03:58leaving a note that said
03:59Upon reading the note, the singer suffered a pre-heart attack, but recovered.
04:09In 92, in his book A Gaita Nua,
04:13Mare Teresinha talks about her tumultuous and loving relationship with Teixeirinha.
04:19Shortly thereafter, Teixeirinha was diagnosed with lymphoma.
04:23The illness, along with the separation from Mare,
04:26whose relationship with him had gone beyond the stage
04:29and begot two sons,
04:31brought sadness to the singer.
04:33Despite this, Teixeirinha still released 3 albums.
04:38His last LP was released the day after his death.
04:43He died at his home on December 4, 1985.
