00:03As the conflict between Israel and Iran escalates,
00:11fake and misleading footage of alleged strikes are spreading online.
00:15We've been verifying the authenticity of some of these videos.
00:19This clip, viewed hundreds of thousands of times on TikTok,
00:23claims to show destruction caused by Israeli airstrikes on Iran.
00:27But the video has been clearly generated with artificial intelligence.
00:31These videos, claiming to show damage to Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion airport after Iranian attacks,
00:37are also AI-generated.
00:39Other old videos, unrelated to the current conflict, are being shared.
00:44Al Jazeera published this video, claiming to show fires in Tel Aviv caused by Iranian strikes.
00:50But we used a reverse image search to trace the source of the video
00:54and found that it had been circulating online for at least a month
00:57and therefore cannot show damage caused by the current exchange of fire.
01:02For example, it was posted by a Facebook user on May 10th
01:05and claims to show the impact of exchange of fire between India and Pakistan.
01:10This image has also been widely shared,
01:12allegedly showing an explosion at an Iranian oil refinery caused by an Israeli strike.
01:18But we found that it in fact shows this explosion at a petrochemical plant in Elam, Iran,
01:25back in November 2020, as reported then by Iranian media.
01:30We have been able to geolocate some videos of strikes to prove their authenticity.
01:35For example, we used satellite imagery to corroborate that this video
01:39does show an Israeli strike last Friday on an area in the north of Piran Shahr,
01:46a city in Iran's West Azerbaijan province.
01:49Verifying videos is complex and time-consuming,
01:52but essential for ensuring we share authentic footage of the strikes.
