00:00It was a big surprise that we had some major complications.
00:20I got the call that things aren't going great.
00:23At that point, we didn't know the danger that Emma or Helm were in.
00:27I was diagnosed with HELP syndrome.
00:30It's got about a 50% death rate of either the mom or the child.
00:37You need to deliver Liam tonight.
00:41The danger with the HELP syndrome is supposed to be cleared after birth.
00:48But things got a lot worse.
00:51They started running more tests, started hooking them up to a bunch of different machines.
00:57There were complications, and then there were seizures, and there was a lot going on.
01:02They had about eight different people in there, several of them giving orders on what to do.
01:09I just remember chaos.
01:12Collectively, it was a lot worse than they seemed to be able to handle.
01:16And the doctor looked so frustrated and frazzled and said,
01:23There's so many issues. I don't know how to save you. And she left.
01:30So this whole time, Emma's just been in bed.
01:33And she hadn't actually stood up in three to four days.
01:36There was just a lot of confusion about what was happening and why it was happening.
01:39And at some point, we were starting to realize that she can't stand up.
01:42She had no strength in her legs at all, so nurses waved it off saying,
01:47It's normal. You haven't been walking for a couple days.
01:50Because of that toll, I ended up losing the ability to walk.
02:02It was just hard to accept that this was kind of the new normal for our family.
02:11I got this vision, like this picture in my mind of Emma sitting in a chair down in front and us all praying for her.
02:23And I don't know what's happening. And I hear them mention that we're going to pray for her.
02:28I was so mad in that moment. I was like, God, don't do this to her.
02:34This is not fair for you to, after everything she's been through, to try to get her hopes up right now.
02:41And I just kept hearing the words,
02:44Get out of the boat. Get out of the boat.
02:49You need enough faith just to get out of the boat.
02:53And it was exactly three steps in.
02:58My legs changed.
03:01Get out of the boat.
03:03And now I'm home already.
03:08Leave this place.
03:14Friends.
03:15You
