'No Kings' Protests Held Across the U.S.

Thousands of protests opposing the Trump administration have been held across the U.S., organized to fall on the same day as a military parade in Washington D.C. Most protests were peaceful, but clashes with police occurred in a few cities.

00:13to stand against U.S. President Donald Trump.

00:16Protesters argue Trump considers himself above the rule of law

00:20and say they're out on the streets to protect democratic values.

00:24Well, I mean, America's about democracy.

00:26What we're saying right now is not democracy.

00:28It's about one person, their ego, their agenda.

00:32It's just not really about, you know, the land of the free home of the brave.

00:36It's about one person trying to be a saint.

00:39I believe that Donald Trump is destroying our country.

00:43He has sold out democracy to the highest bidder.

00:48He is really only in this for himself.

00:52I'm here to demonstrate my right to protest against a regime

00:57that is taking away people's rights.

01:00Most protests were peaceful, filling streets and plazas,

01:04congregating outside state capitals and city halls.

01:07Down, down with deportation!

01:17But in several cities, there were clashes with police.

01:20In Los Angeles, police fired tear gas and rubber bullets

01:30as they attempted to clear out protesters.

01:32The nationwide protests come as anger has deepened

01:43over federal workplace immigration rates,

01:45culminating in days of unrest in Los Angeles.

01:47The protests were also organized to coincide

01:51with a military parade in Washington, D.C.,

01:53celebrating the Army's 250th anniversary,

01:57which has faced criticism by some

01:58who say the Trump administration is politicizing the military

02:01and wasting taxpayer dollars.

02:04The No Kings protests have also spread across the world,

02:08with people in Mexico, Germany, Britain, and Taiwan taking part.

02:12In an effort, they say, to stand in solidarity with those in the U.S.,

02:16making their voices heard against the Trump administration.
