00:28So, what's the buzz all about?
00:30Prince Harry has signed a deal with Penguin Random House to write his memoir,
00:34and it's expected to be released in late 2022. This book promises to provide a unique perspective
00:39on his life and experiences, including his time in the royal family, military service,
00:45marriage, fatherhood, and his decision to step back from royal duties.
00:49The memoir will be a first-person account, allowing Prince Harry to share his own thoughts,
00:54feelings, and experiences. He's described it as an opportunity to tell his
00:58story not as the prince he was born, but as the man he has become.
01:02This means we can anticipate personal anecdotes, reflections, and insights into both the joys
01:07and challenges he's faced throughout his life. The announcement of this memoir has raised many
01:12questions and sparked a great deal of interest. It's a significant step for a member of the royal
01:17family to write a book about their life, and it's sure to be met with both excitement
01:21and controversy. Some people are eager to hear his side of the story,
01:25while others may be concerned about what he chooses to disclose.
01:28What can we expect from this memoir? Well, we can look forward to insights into his experiences as
01:33a military officer, his charitable work, and the impact of losing his mother, Princess Diana,
01:39at a young age. We'll also likely hear about his relationship with Meghan Markle,
01:44the challenges they faced in the public eye, and their decision to step back from their senior royal
01:48roles. It's a lot to cover, and it'll be fascinating to see how he addresses these topics.
01:53Of course, this announcement has already sparked a range of reactions.
01:57Some are supportive of Prince Harry's decision to share his story, while others are more skeptical.
02:02As we've seen with other royal memoirs, they can be both revealing and polarizing.

02:24learn more about the release and its contents. Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex born the 15th of
02:29September 1984 as a member of the British royal family. As the younger son of King Charles III
02:34and Diana, Princess of Wales, Harry is fifth in the line of succession to the British throne.
02:39Educated at Weatherby School, Ludgrove School, and Eton College, Harry completed army officer
02:45training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. He was commissioned as a cornet into the Blues and
02:50Royals and served temporarily with his older brother William. Harry was separately deployed
02:54on active duty to Afghanistan on two occasions. The first was in 2007-2008 for 10 weeks in Helmand
03:01Province. The second was for 20 weeks in 2012-2013 with the Army Air Corps. Inspired by the Warrior Games
03:09in the United States, Harry launched the Invictus Games in 2014 as founding patron and now remains
03:14involved in a non-royal capacity. Two years later, alongside brother William and his wife Catherine,
03:20Harry jointly initiated the Mental Health Awareness Campaign Heads Together.
03:24In 2018, Harry's paternal grandma, Queen Elizabeth II, gave him the hereditary title of Duke of Sussex
03:30prior to his wedding to American actress Meghan Markle. The couple stepped down as working royals
03:35in January 2020, moved to Meghan's native Southern California, and launched Archuling,
03:40a Beverly Hills-based mix of for-profit and not-for-profit business organizations.
03:45In March 2021, he sat for opera with Meghan and Harry, a much-publicized American television
03:51interview with his wife and opera Winfrey. Harry and Meghan have two children, Prince Archie and
03:57Princess Lilibet. Prince Harry was born in the Lindo Wing of St. Mary's Hospital in Paddington,
04:02London, on 15 September 1984. As the second child of Charles, Prince of Wales,
04:08and his first wife, Diana, Princess of Wales, during the reign of his grandmother Queen Elizabeth II.
04:13He was christened Henry Charles Albert David on 21 December 1984 at St. George's Chapel,
04:19Windsor Castle, by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Robert Runcie. Growing up, he was referred to as
04:25Harry by family, friends, and the public, and was nicknamed Harold by his brother.
04:30Harry and his elder brother, William, were raised at Kensington Palace in London,
04:34and Highgrove House in Gloucestershire. Diana wanted him and his brother to have a
04:38broader range of experience and a better understanding of ordinary life than previous
04:42royal children. She took them to venues that ranged from Walt Disney World and McDonald's
04:47to AIDS clinics and homeless shelters. He began accompanying his parents on official visits at
04:52an early age. His first overseas tour was with his parents to Italy in 1985.
04:57He also traveled with his family to Canada in 1991 and 1998.
05:01Harry's parents divorced in 1996. His mother died in a car crash in Paris the following year.
05:07Harry and William were staying with their father at Balmoral at the time,
05:11and the Prince of Wales told his sons about their mother's death.
05:14At his mother's funeral, Harry, then age 12, accompanied his father, brother, paternal
05:19grandfather Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, and maternal uncle Charles Spencer, 9th Earl Spencer,
05:24in walking behind the funeral cordage from Kensington Palace to Westminster Abbey.
05:28Harry and his brother William inherited the bulk of the 12.9 million pounds left by their
05:33mother on their respective 30th birthday, a figure that had grown since her 1997 death
05:38to 10 million pounds each in 2014. In 2014, Harry and William inherited their mother's wedding dress
05:44along with many of her other personal possessions, including dresses, diamond tiaras, jewels, letters,
05:50and paintings. The brothers also received the original lyrics and score of Candle in the Wind
05:55by Bernie Taupin and Elton John, as performed by John at Diana's funeral.
05:59In 2002, the Times reported that Harry would also share with his brother a disbursement of 4.9
06:05million pounds from trust funds established by their great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth the
06:10Queen Mother, on their respective 21st birthday, and would share a disbursement of 8 million pounds
06:15upon their respective 40th birthdays. It was reported that Harry would inherit the bulk of the money left
06:20by the Queen Mother for the two brothers, as William is set to ascend to the throne, which will bring
06:25him additional financial benefits. Like his father and brother, Harry was educated at private schools.
06:31He started at London's Jane Miners Nursery School and the pre-preparatory Weatherby School.
06:36Following this, he attended Ludgrove School in Berkshire. After passing entrance exams,
06:41he was admitted to Eaton College. The decision to place Harry at Eaton went against the past
06:45practice of the Mountbatten-Windsors to send children to Gordonstown, which Harry's grandfather,
06:50father, two uncles, and two cousins had attended. It did, however, see Harry follow in his older
06:56brother's footsteps in the Spencer family, as both Diana's father and brother attended Eaton.
07:01As was the case with his brother, the royal family and the tabloid press agreed Harry would be allowed
07:05to study free from intrusion in exchange for occasional photograph opportunities in what
07:10became known as the Pressure-Cooker Agreement. In June 2003, Harry completed his education at Eaton
07:16with 2A levels, achieving a grade B in art and D in geography, having decided to drop history of art
07:21after his level. He has been described as a top-tier athlete, having played competitive polo and rugby
07:27union. One of his former teachers, Sarah Forsyth, has asserted that he was a weak student and that
07:32staff at Eaton conspired to help him cheat on examinations. Both Eaton and Harry denied the claims.
07:38While a tribunal made no ruling on the cheating claim, it accepted the prince had received help in
07:42preparing his a-level expressive project, which he needed to pass to secure his place at Sandhurst.
07:48Harry also joined the combined cadet force while studying at Eaton and was made cadet officer in
07:52his final year, leading the Corps Annual Parade at the Eaton Tattoo. After school, Harry took a gap year,
07:58during which he spent time in Australia working as a jackaroo on a cattle station and participating in
08:03the Young England vs. Young Australia polo test match. He also traveled to Lesudu, where he worked with
08:09orphaned children and produced the documentary film The Forgotten Kingdom, Prince Harry and Lesudu.
08:14Harry passed the regular commission's board in September 2004 and entered the Royal Military
08:19Academy Sandhurst on 8 May 2005, where he was known as Officer Cadet Wales and joined Alameen Company.
08:27His entry into the academy had to be delayed for four months as he recovered from an injury to his left
08:32knee. In April 2006, Harry completed his officer training and was commissioned as a cornet in the
08:37Blues and Royal, a regiment of the Household Cavalry in the British Army. On the 13th of
08:42April 2008, when he reached two years seniority, Harry was promoted to lieutenant. In 2006, it was
08:49announced that Harry's unit was scheduled to be deployed in Iraq the following year. A public
08:53debate ensued as to whether he should serve there. In April 2006, the Ministry of Defense announced that
08:59Harry would be shielded from the front line if his unit was sent to war, with a spokeswoman stating that
09:04he was expected to undertake the fullest range of deployments, but his role needed to be monitored as
09:09his overt presence might attract additional attention that would put him or those he commanded
09:13at risk. Defense Secretary John Reed said that he should be allowed to serve on the front line of
09:18battle zones. Harry agreed saying, if they said no, you can't go front line then I wouldn't drag my
09:23sorry ass through Sandhurst and I wouldn't be where I am now. Harry completed the troop leader's course in
09:28October 2006 and rejoined his regiment in Windsor, where he was put in charge of a troop of 11 soldiers
09:34and four scimitar reconnaissance vehicles. The Ministry of Defense in Clarence House made a
09:39joint announcement on the 22nd of February 2007 that Harry would be deployed with his regiment to
09:44Iraq as part of the 1st Mechanized Brigade of the 3rd Mechanized Division, a move supported by Harry,
09:50who had stated that he would leave the army if he was told to remain in safety while his regiment went to
09:55war. The head of the British Army at the time, General Sir Richard Dannette, said on the 30th of
10:00April 2007 that he had personally decided that Harry would serve with his unit in Iraq as a troop
10:05commander, and Harry was scheduled for deployment in May or June 2007 to patrol the Mason Governory.
10:11By the 16th of May, however, Dannette announced that Harry would not serve in Iraq. Concerns included
10:16Harry being a high-value target and the dangers the soldiers around him would face should any attempt
10:21be made on his life or if he were captured. Clarence House made public Harry's disappointment
10:26with the decision, though he said he would abide by it. In the summer of 2007, Harry was trained as
10:31a Joint Terminal Attack Controller at RAF Leeming. In early June 2007, it was reported that Harry had
10:38arrived in Canada to train alongside soldiers of the Canadian Forces and British Army at CFB Suffield
10:44near Medicine Hat, Alberta. It was said that this was in preparation for a tour of duty in Afghanistan,
10:49where Canadian and British forces were participating in the NATO-led Afghan war.
10:54This was confirmed in February of the following year when the British Ministry of Defence revealed
10:58that Harry had been secretly deployed as a Joint Terminal Attack Controller to Helmand Province in
11:03Afghanistan for the previous ten weeks. The revelation came after the media, notably,
11:08German newspaper Build and Australian magazine New Idea, breached the blackout placed over the
11:13information by the Canadian and British authorities. He was immediately pulled out due to the fear that
11:18the media coverage would put his security and the security of fellow soldiers at risk.
11:23It was later reported that Harry helped Gurkha troops repel an attack from Taliban insurgents
11:28and performed patrol duty in hostile areas while in Afghanistan.
11:32Harry's tour made him the first member of the British royal family to serve in a war zone since
11:36his uncle Prince Andrew, who flew helicopters during the Falklands War. For his service,
11:41his aunt Princess Anne presented Harry with an operational service medal for Afghanistan at the
11:46Kammermer Barracks in May 2008. In October 2008, it was announced that Harry would follow his brother,
11:52father and uncle in learning to fly military helicopters. Harry attended the Defence Helicopter
11:57Flying School at Raph Shawbury, where he joined his brother. Prince Charles presented him with his
12:02flying brevet on the 7th of May 2010 at a ceremony at the Army Air Corps Base, Middle Wallop.
12:08Harry was awarded his Apache Flying Badge on the 14th of April 2011.
12:12On the 16th of April 2011, it was announced that Harry had been promoted to captain.
12:17In June 2011, Clarence House announced that Harry would be available for deployment in current
12:22operations in Afghanistan as an Apache helicopter pilot. The final decision rested with the Ministry
12:28of Defence's senior commanders, including principally the Chief of the Defence Staff in
12:32consultation with the wishes of Harry, the Prince of Wales, and the Queen. In October,
12:37he was transferred to a U.S. military base in California to complete his helicopter gunship
12:42training. This final phase included live fire training and environmental and judgment training
12:47at Naval and Air Force facilities in California and Arizona. Until next time, stay curious, stay informed,
12:55and keep exploring the world's incredible stories. I stop at this point today. I hope I added something to
13:01you. Soon we will publish Part 2.
