Quick thinking by approximately thirty Tobagonians got them though delays at John F Kennedy International Airport in New York on Thursday morning as bad weather in this country appeared to have canceled Caribbean Airlines flight 423 to Tobago ..

Former head of the Truckers Association Horace Amede spoke to TV6'S Elizabeth Williams, as he disembarked at the ANR Robinson International Airport on Friday. More in this report.
Transcript
00:00I got to the airport around 3.30 the morning, JFK, and there was some problem because they were
00:08hustling to get the Guyana flight out. And 4.30 or 4.48, some of the passengers got an update
00:20that the flight is canceled. But they said nothing to us until probably after 5.00. So we were just
00:27sort of backward and forward, moving from, we moved from one to about five different terminals.
00:33Mr. Amid said hours of waiting without receiving word on the departure of the flight on Thursday
00:39in New York, some passengers left the airport.
00:43We were there until about 8.30 when we realized nothing is happening. Spoke to several supervisors
00:52and all that they're saying. All that they are saying is Trinidad is the head office and
00:57they can't make any decisions without Trinidad getting involved.
01:02But Mr. Amid was not giving up after several calls, emails to Caribbean Airlines and arrangements
01:09for stranded passengers to be housed. In addition to some compensation from Caribbean Airlines,
01:15flight BW-521 touched down at the A&R Robinson International Airport on Friday, shortly after 12 noon.
01:24Caribbean Airlines, they were very helpful. And I hope in the future, things like this don't happen.
01:31We are not blaming them because it was because of the inclement weather. What took place, took place.
01:37So I say hats off to calling the Cal Executive and thanks to Ms. Helen and others who made it possible
01:47that we could be housed and get to Tobago safe today.
01:54Elizabeth Williams, TV6 News.
