03:32BMW's number 15 hypercar had been running fast and clean
03:42and suddenly was at the side of the track with its front wheels removed.
03:46What had happened to driver Dries Van Tour?
03:49He was clearly okay, but the barriers were not.
03:54The number 15 car would be the one that brought out the first safety car of the race.
04:03And the replay showed quite clearly it was contact.
04:07The number 83 Ferrari was the culprit.
04:10Barrier repairs would cause an hour-long delay in the safety car.
04:14The 15 was out of action.
04:16The 83 would receive a penalty.
04:18And the end of the road for the doctor.
04:20Valentino Rossi's car being driven by Ahmad Al-Harty.
04:23Just an innocuous lose in the S's, but a very heavy impact with the barriers,
04:28would take another of WRT's BMWs out of the hunt.
04:33Both of their hypercars were off the road,
04:35and now their 46 GT3 was as well.
04:38They had one car left.
04:40Nightfall, and the safety cars remained out for the barrier repairs on the Mulsanne Strait.
04:46They were joined then by rain.
04:48And although it wasn't misty outside,
04:51for a number of the drivers, visibility was extremely tough.
04:54The safety car remained out for more than four hours during the night.
04:58And by dawn, the battle continued to rage.
05:02Frontrunners all-season Manti-Pure Racing in the Porsche in GT3
05:07hit their fair share of troubles, and they dropped out of overall contention.
05:12Their team car, the Manti EMA Porsche, though, was still very much in the hunt.
05:18Nielsen Competition's LMP2 car suffered damage,
05:22clattering the barriers in the S's,
05:25as the slippery track caught him out on slick tyres.
05:30He wasn't the only one either.
05:32The number four car from Porsche Penske Motorsport,
05:35heading into the Porsche curbs.
05:38Again, the tyres, designed for dry conditions,
05:42just not handling the still-damp track.
05:46A heavy impact with the barriers.
05:49And there was even more drama.
05:51Heart of Racing's Aston Martin barrel-rolled into retirement,
05:55bringing out another safety car period.
05:58Over the wet curbs, into the tyre wall,
06:01and a gentle roll onto the roof.
06:05Fortunately, as in all the other incidents,
06:07the driver was A-OK.
06:10But once more, the safety car was out for clear-up.
06:14And when you ride on board, you can understand why.
06:17Cadillac's number three car had dropped out of contention early on,
06:28but their IMSA entry, the 311 from Whelan,
06:31hit the barriers just before lunchtime,
06:34and that too dropped out of contention.
06:36But their number two car, their regular season entry,
06:39was still a potential winner.
06:42So were two Porsches, three Ferraris,
06:44until the 83 car caught fire in the pit lane.
06:48A total electrical blackout was the reason.
06:51High drama for the 83 crew.
06:54But the front hybrid drive or its electronics
06:57seemed to be malfunctioning.
06:59And there was nothing for it but to park the car
07:02that for many hours had been the overall race leader
07:06here at Le Mans.
07:09Their dreams would have to wait for another day.
07:13This race was over.
07:19But two factory Ferraris remained in the hunt
07:22with the two works Toyotas.
07:25And they were very close together.
07:27Contact between the number 51 car and number 8
07:30and in very wet conditions early in the afternoon
07:33would result in a penalty for 51.
07:36And the race boiled down to the battle
07:38between Ferrari and Toyota.
07:41Cadillac and Porsche were bystanders.
07:45As 50 and 51 from Ferrari,
07:477 and 8 from Toyota
07:49continued to slug it out for supremacy.
07:53Rain came and went.
07:55Drizzle and then more rain.
07:57Wet weather tyres were going to be required
07:59to finish this one in one piece.
08:02After 22 hours,
08:04we were still no closer
08:05to knowing which of the top nine cars overall
08:09was going to win.
08:11At times, Ferrari seemed to have the upper hand.
08:13But then the number 7 Toyota
08:15moved up into second place.
08:17The number 50 Ferrari that led
08:19was short on fuel.
08:22In the end though,
08:23they managed to make it home.
08:25measuring their pace against their economy.
08:28A stunning second consecutive win
08:31at Le Mans for Ferrari
08:32and a first for the crew of car number 50.
08:36Niklas Nilsson held his nerve
08:38under attack from Toyota
08:39for the final 90 minutes.
08:41In LMP2,
08:43it was the 22 car from United Autosports
08:45that was victorious.
08:47While Manti EMA claimed their first win
08:50of the World Endurance Campaign
08:51with the big one,
08:53victory in Le Mans.
08:56Our LMP3 winning crew
08:58featured one experienced driver
09:01and two making their debut
09:03at this great race.
09:05A day they will never forget.
09:07And for Ferrari and Toyota,
09:09another epic duel.
09:10As last year,
09:11Toyota came close,
09:13but Ferrari took the honours.
09:15They are the 2024th Le Mans 24-hour winners.
09:20What are the most coming out of this?
09:34As the last day they will not be
09:36in their country.
09:36They are the first team
09:38who is not the best of us.
09:39This is our country,
09:41who is not the best
09:42of us in the South.
09:42We will not be all the best
09:44of us in America.
09:45We will not be all the best
09:46of us.
09:47It will not be all the best
09:48of us in the South.
