00:00A lack of updated map data is making the fight against wildfire in Europe inefficient,
00:07according to a report by the European Court of Auditors.
00:11The report analyses how Greece, Spain, Poland and Portugal use EU funds to prevent wildfires.
00:19While it acknowledges significant investment in prevention,
00:23the institution notes that the data used is updated.
00:27For instance, it was found that in Greece the list of areas prone to forest fires is more than 45 years old.
00:37The report additionally says there is a little monitoring of the actual impact of EU spending on the ground.
00:45It reviewed projects funded since 2014 through the European Structural and Investment Funds
00:52and the Recovering and Resilience Facility.
00:55Auditors concluded that the projects selected to receive EU funds
01:00do not always target areas where the impact will be the greatest.
