00:00A state representative is calling for the end of history classes in Illinois schools
00:05until appropriate alternatives are developed.
00:08It costs us as a society in the long run forever when we don't understand our brothers and sisters
00:16that we live, work, and play with.
00:19States are too frightened to get involved in curriculum work.
00:22The way that our country's history is taught is deliberate.
00:29I think for white kids, it kind of leaves them blinded and kind of bubble wrapped in this lie.
00:38It's being able to understand what happened, how it happened,
00:42and what we can do to dismiss those things that had a lot of negative baggage on them
00:46and go forward in a positive way.
00:50Now Ford is calling on the State Board of Education and all local school districts
00:54to take immediate action by removing current history books and curriculum
00:58that he says unfairly communicate history.
01:02The fight is to get the textbooks out of those classrooms.
01:05We can no longer, in my opinion, have the same textbooks that we know is inaccurate.
01:12And I've said somewhat like lead in the water, you know, poison to the student.
01:19We need to get them out of those classrooms, otherwise we're perpetuating and teaching the untruths.
