A shocking bomb hit the NFL news world today when the Packers decided to release former Pro Bowl cornerback Jaire Alexander. He is expected to have interest from teams around the league, but will likely need to take a discounted deal due to a heavy injury history. Should Howie Roseman and the Eagles try to sign Alexander and let him compete for the 2nd cornerback spot? Today, RB discusses all of this and more!

00:00A bit of a shocking NFL news bomb hit the airwaves today during dead season and I know what everyone's

00:06thinking right the Eagles can't get any richer nobody wants to see the birds add another piece

00:12do they well some Eagle fans are left pondering whether or not Howie Roseman could have one final

00:17trick up the sleeve this offseason so we will talk about this potential signing doesn't make sense

00:23could it actually happen and what would it mean for the guys on the roster we'll get into all

00:29that and more right here on A to Z Philly but welcome into the show I'm RB and we started off

00:35by just remembering who is the GM of this franchise Howie Roseman you can never count this guy out

00:43when Chip Kelly threw him in the back of a dust closet when they told him that 2017 was a fluke

00:48doesn't matter whatever you tell this guy he finds a way to beat the odds and he finds a way to make

00:53things happen so I'm never putting anything past this guy and I trust whatever he does he's had

00:59another tremendous offseason but could that offseason include one final move we talked about

01:04Trey Hendrickson the other day even though that is very unlikely however what about this one breaking

01:11news today Jeremy Fowler of ESPN says that the Packers plan to release two-time pro bowler

01:16Jair Alexander a cornerback a former first-round pick should the Eagles go after Jair Alexander

01:24let's look at Jair Alexander okay 2018 first-round pick 18th overall to Green Bay he spent his entire

01:33career there put up some really good numbers in his first years there a couple playoff runs for sure

01:39and then in 2021 four games played had a major injury missed the rest of the season 16 games played in

01:462022 he had five interceptions this year his best by far and then the last two years he's only played

01:53seven games in the regular season each year so injury prone right check lack of production the

01:59last couple years check you know maybe a bit on a decline check I get it a lot of risk but what

02:05could that come with potentially high reward right and it all depends on what happens now 28 years old

02:12is Jair Alexander and a couple things come into the equation here shout out to Jason Dumas for putting

02:18this out Eagles secondary coach Christian Parker coached Jair Alexander in Green Bay and they have

02:25a great relationship not sure if the money works or if the Eagles even have interest but it is an

02:31interesting name that suddenly became available and a position of need for Philly now I saw a list put

02:38out today there was like eight or ten teams Eagles were on the list again who knows if they would even

02:43have interest there was a weird report like a month ago that they were calling to inquire about Jalen Ramsey

02:49I never bought any of that right Vic Fangio doesn't like Jalen Ramsey vice versa never thought that could be

02:55a possibility but with this maybe just maybe it could make a little bit of sense now here is the Eagles

03:03current depth chart and I don't like to use ESPN sometimes it's off kilter but Quinjon Mitchell and on the

03:10other side Keeley Ringo right Cooper DeGene pretty much announced last Friday that he will stay at

03:16Nickelback so what does that mean it means Keeley Ringo is fighting for the job it is his to lose

03:23right you bring in a Dory Jackson on a one-year deal and that makes me feel like it's going to be either

03:28Keeley or a Dory Jackson if they were to make a move and go in and bring Jair Alexander that means a

03:34Dory's out of here and Keeley does not have a good shot right it would mean they don't feel confident

03:39with who they have Keeley Ringo a former fourth round pick has a little bit of experience hasn't

03:45really played that much so to me he is still one of the biggest questions on this team going into

03:50training camp and going into the next phase of the offseason we know Quinjon's a lockdown we know

03:56Coop's a lockdown but what about Jair Alexander well again it all depends on if he can stay healthy

04:02Zach Cruz put out an article here and I thought it did a pretty good job breaking this down Jair Alexander

04:08turned down a restructured deal before the Packers decided to release him this aligns with previous

04:14reporting on the two sides attempting to find a solution pretty much what happened was they already

04:21have a current contract right and I believe it yeah four years 84 million dollars two years left on

04:28the deal that he signed in 2022 so he is already on a contract however they tried to restructure it and

04:35offer a reduced incentive laden deal because the guy continues to get hurt where he would be a free

04:43agent following this upcoming season but Alexander did not like the structure he turned it down that

04:49was the only path to reconciliation for Alexander and the Packers a declined offer was likely the last

04:55option before a release they talked to the Packers president today he said look we're gonna be fine

05:00without him we're used to playing without him kind of a shot kind of true now at the same time if they

05:06were not able to trade this contract that tells me that nobody else wanted to inherit that deal nobody

05:12wanted to take that money on so it doesn't seem like any other teams will be willing to pay him nearly

05:19as much right but could a team offer him a discounted one-year deal maybe two-year deal to come in try to

05:27prove himself and get paid again big time next season is he willing to take that risk on himself

05:34and could that team be the Philadelphia Eagles well I'm gonna tell you straight up right now

05:39the only way that this deal would happen is if he takes a very very very heavy discount to come to

05:48Philadelphia right if he comes here he says I'm going to compete for the second cornerback job

05:53I'm going to try to be on a team that can go deep in the playoffs right have a great run put me right

05:59on display and hopefully get my big contract next offseason similar situation to what Dallas Goddard

06:05is doing right now not exactly the same but you know what I mean Jire Alexander is actually from

06:11Philadelphia he was born here he moved as a toddler to North Carolina so not a lot of ties but

06:16he was born here in the Philly area he has a relationship with Christian Parker should the

06:23Eagles do this deal again it would only happen if he takes a very heavily discounted deal let's say a

06:29one-year five million or whatever it is because that has been the entire theme of the offseason

06:34bring in vets to try to patch up the holes develop the young guys maybe the Eagles are satisfied with

06:40Keeley and with Adoree Jackson they don't need anybody else right we don't know what they think on the

06:45inside but it definitely does get intriguing this guy's a former pro bowler and his only issue has

06:51been staying on the field obviously a glaring one but if he could have a bounce back season you're

06:57essentially getting a pro bowl talent for a very cheap price now at the same time from his side he

07:03probably wants to go to a team that's going to offer more more guaranteed years right give him some

07:08stability but based on the fact that they could not trade him that tells me there's really not a lot of

07:13interest generating around the NFL so I do think it would be intriguing as a possibility here's what

07:20ESP says about Jair Alexander one makes a ton of sense he's been an elite player when healthy injuries

07:26have been an issue in 2024 Alexander graded out similar to Quinone and Slay he graded out higher than

07:33every single Eagles corner can still play but only 16 total games the last two years he has missed

07:4034 games over the last four years and that is certainly a glaring sign signing Alexander would

07:46complicate the roster it would probably mean the end of Keeley Ringo having a chance to start he's

07:51only 28 years old could be a fit next to Quinone and Coop for the next two plus years if he comes here

07:57and plays well personally I don't agree with this last one I think it would be a one-year deal with you

08:03know a lot of incentives which he already turned down but the difference is that you know the Packers who

08:07complain and whine about the tush push are probably not going to win the Super Bowl whereas the Eagles

08:12have a really good shot to go back and if you want to take a discount to try to bet on your future self

08:17this is probably the place to do it so if the money would work if they could find a way to make it happen

08:23I wouldn't be opposed to it but is it something that I'm really you know pushing for like they have

08:29to make this happen no because I think Keeley Ringo in-house saw the way that he needed to play last

08:35year I think he did a really good job just sitting behind the scenes in the shadows learning

08:39Christian Parker said they did a really good job developing him and I also think that Howie

08:44Roseman again is so confident in his drafting abilities even if Keeley doesn't start the year

08:49out well maybe they go the veteran route they sign somebody or they just play a Dory Jackson

08:54and then they use one of those 13 picks next year to try to draft another Quinone or another Cooper

08:59to Jean so I don't think that this is high on the priority list but you never know you can never

09:05put it past Howie Roseman and if he does come here I mean that is the final piece and it would make the
