00:00On to stage two of the Criterium de Dauphiné and after yesterday's GC fireworks we should,
00:07should have a more traditional sprint stage today. There are plenty more climbs but the
00:12last one tops out with 18k to go which will give the fast men more of a chance although
00:17they won't be the only ones targeting victory. I think there are many teams they have not so
00:22many chances. You saw yesterday that these three climbers GC riders are on another planet so there
00:29will be no chance the last three days actually for all the teams it's just the first four
00:33days so they have to try something if they want to win the stage. The top sprinter in the
00:39peloton Jonathan Milan admits that with Pogaccia, Vingegaard and Evan Appal in town anything is possible.
00:45We have to expand these things with this champion in a bunch so of course this everything is creating
00:53everything more like funny and more special so no for sure we have to start the day like
00:59not leaving the many guys in the break and then if there will be some attacks we have to
01:04try to close on them but we will see we will see how it will go. Yeah the final I don't think the GC
01:12guys will be able to do what they did yesterday so should be more of a pure sprint and I think yeah
01:19everyone will be looking at Trek again with Milan so it will be interesting. Little Trek are likely
01:25to be the ones controlling the race then but some of the punchiest sprinters could also have their say.
01:29It's true that Trek have a strong team around Milan but I'm sure some guys will be looking to make
01:36life hard for him which would be good news for me. I think we can expect another crazy race. I have
01:42good memories of Isoir. I was third on a stage there in 2021 and it's a hilly profile that could suit me.
01:49Well stage two takes us from Premilla to Isoir at just over 200 kilometers. There are six climbs in
01:56total although unlike yesterday most of them come towards the start of the stage. The final difficulty
02:02the Cote de Nonette is 1.8 kilometers at 5.7 percent and that's where the sprinters will have to hold on
02:09if they want to go for the win in Isoir. Well having spent half of the stage out on his own at the
02:20front Paul Orselan finally got some company just after the intermediate sprint. The Frenchman had
02:26taken six points over the early climbs to tighten his grip on the polka dot jersey before being joined
02:31by Chris Yule Jensen, Roman Combo and Victor Gernalek. Well their lead was hovering at around a minute
02:38clear, although the average speed was fairly low, less than 38 kilometers an hour for the first three
02:44hours. With more than 3,000 meters of elevation gain it was important to keep some energy for the final.
02:50The riders embarking on the toughest climb of the day, the category two Cote du Chateau de Burent for
03:00no real change in the race situation to four leaders still around a minute clear.
03:04Well this climb was 3.3 kilometers at 6.9 percent and Orselan and Combo soon said goodbye leaving Yule Jensen
03:17and Gernalek at the front. Riders in the peloton were starting to struggle too including Magnus Court
03:23who won stage two of the Dauphiné last year. Gernalek pouncing to take five King of the Mountains points
03:30at the summit ahead of Yule Jensen. A few minutes later Milan was also dropped from the main bunch,
03:40prompting a bit of panic in the legal trek ranks. The American squad sent several riders back to help
03:46the Italian catcher, notably Edward Turnes and Julien Bernard. And with 45 kilometers to go it was all back
03:55together again, breakaway over and Milan back in the bunch. The riders heading over the finish line
04:02for the first time and into the final lap. On these long exposed roads there was a slim possibility of
04:08echelons and the GC teams were taking no risks moving their leaders up to the front. There wasn't
04:14enough wind to cause any splits though so all that remained to shake things up was the final climb,
04:20the Cote de Nonnette. This was the last opportunity to try to drop those sprinters.
04:30And now we get the attack and it comes from, no surprise,
04:34Romain Bardet. This is a climb that he's ridden since he was 12 years of age.
04:40Bardet goes clear, he knows the running down to Issoir as well.
04:43And this is the moment we've all been waiting for.
04:49Well, Romain Bardet will be retiring at the end of this Dauphiné and clearly he wants to make the most of
04:53every minute. The Frenchman was first over the summit, but he was then caught just inside 10 kilometers.
05:00Tomorrow, we'll be setting off from his hometown of Brioude.
05:03The sprint trains getting set for the final then, with Lidltrek taking control as they entered the
05:11final kilometer. Big move by the team of Tudor Pro Cycling, but Milan has it and Jonathan Milan is
05:19there. But Mathieu van der Poel is locked in on the wheel of Jonathan Milan. The team of Bahrain
05:25Victorious are ready, they know this finish well. Also up towards the front is the rider from the Total
05:31Energy Squad, but Milan has got a perfect lead out here. Fedorov kicks on the right-hand side.
05:37Jonathan Milan goes up the barrier to our left-hand side on his wheel. His rider trying to make the
05:43move now is Mathieu van der Poel. Van der Poel, but it's all the way. He was the favorite. Jonathan Milan
05:50delivers for Lidltrek.
05:53Well, it was anything but a straightforward day at the office for Milan, but the Italian got the job done.
05:59A fantastic team effort from Lidltrek to bring their sprinter back when he was dropped and then
06:04tee him up perfectly in Iswar. That's his sixth win of the season and his very first on French soil.
06:11Yesterday, I have to say, I was really suffering a lot. I was also first raised after a long time.
06:19Today, I also suffered a lot, but I have to say thanks to my teammates, because they bring me back.
06:27They guide me until the last meter, they support me. All this they are doing, so massive thanks to them.
06:35Milan winning it fairly comfortably from Fred Wright, Mathieu van der Poel and Stéan Fredheim,
06:40with no fewer than four French riders inside the top ten.
06:46Thanks to bonuses and better stage rankings, Milan also takes the race lead from Pogaccia.
06:51They are both two seconds ahead of Van der Poel and four ahead of Wright and Vingegaard.
07:00Van der Poel tops the points classification, having come third yesterday and third again today.
07:05He leads Bastien Tranchant by 14 points.
07:09Orcelain is still our king of the mountains. After a second day in the breakaway,
07:13he's six points ahead of Victor Gernolek.
07:20And Milan also goes into the white jersey as the best young rider, ahead of Hugo Page.
07:25Well, stage three is another bumpy one with two early climbs
07:28and a sharp hike up the Coupe du Chateau Jaune with just 20k to go.
07:33Do join us for that on Tuesday and thanks for watching.
