00:51He seemed like that passionate young man who was going to do it, come hell or high water.
00:59So I thought, yes, okay.
01:00Oh my God, why the fuck did you do that?
01:04Oh my.
01:05It is truly fascinating that this got made and it involved people who you would not associate
01:11with sort of a super amateur, low budget fan film.
01:15Your crew has been notified to resume duty.
01:17We also had James Shigeta, who you might recognize from Die Hard.
01:21I'm shocked that they got James Shigeta to do that.
01:24Star Trek meant something to them.
01:27It is about being a brotherhood, a sisterhood, a them-hood of everybody.
01:32Star Trek was so forward-thinking.
01:35Star Trek took it on itself to actually subtly edify.
01:39How to deal with race relations, how to deal with gender inequality.
01:42Not only trans representation, but a little bit of queer representation.
01:46The strength of this starship lay in its diversity.
01:50And because the audience is diverse, they would see themselves.
01:54I'd watch them sit there, warp eight, warp nine.
01:57And then you're sitting there thinking, yeah.
01:59You're growing up and you're watching TV, you just want to see somebody that looks like
02:03you on a show.
02:05The drone must have landed here.
02:07When Stan was ready to start working on it again, he couldn't find the film footage.
02:12I think my mom moved it or something and it disappeared.
02:15I was used to that the movie would never be finished.
02:18The fan film was 36 years in the making.
02:20Now that's dedication.
02:22If you want to look at it as a film critic, they had to do thumbs down on some parts of
02:27it.
02:28But that isn't the gesture that they were looking for.
02:31They were looking for this one and I'm happy to give it to them.
02:36Yeah, not a good movie.
02:38But as an expression of Star Trek love, it's fantastic.
02:42Passion is an important thing.
02:43More people should have that.
02:45I know that this is going to be a great success.
02:51May you all live long and prosper.
02:53Yeah.
