00:00Have you ever wondered why some islands in Thailand have the exact names as provinces?
00:05Let's find out.
00:06One of the country's popular destinations, the Surin Islands, which comprise 5 islands in the Andaman Sea,
00:12has no connection with Surin province in Isan region of Thailand.
00:16The reason they were named this way is that the islands were named after
00:20Prayasurin Thalacha, Nok Yung Wisset Kun, a noble who discovered and developed the area.
00:25Another example is Mu Gok Ang Thong, a group of 42 islands in the Gulf of Thailand.
00:30Similarly, it is not located in Ang Thong province in central region, but in Sulatani province.
00:36The reason behind this name's similarity is still unclear.
00:39Some say it's due to the archipelago's basic-like geography resembling a bow,
00:44hence the name Ang Thong, which means a golden bow.
00:47Others believe it may have been named after a novel, similar to the earlier case.
