00:00Well, it's ready, set, football, as the national football team will be aiming for full points.
00:17Well, that's when they take on St. Kitts and Nevis in their World Cup qualifier tomorrow at the Heasley-Cofford Stadium.
00:23Well, a win could guarantee TNT a spot in the final round with a game in hand against Costa Rica.
00:30St. Kitts and Nevis can expect a hungry opponent when the two teams clash at the Heasley-Cofford Stadium for their all-important FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifier come tomorrow.
00:40Kevin Molino sounded the alarm that the national team will be coming after full points in a meet-up with the media earlier today.
00:47It's a bunch of hungry guys. We have that excited to go and play and win a football game for Toronto and Tobago.
00:52And with the backing and the support of the country, we get different energy and we just want to pay them with our results.
01:00With four points and in second spot to Costa Rica, who are on six points in Group B, a win over St. Kitts and Nevis could guarantee TNT a spot in the final round.
01:09Molino added that they are not swayed by what the other teams are doing and instead, he says, they are focused on the task at hand.
01:16We're just focusing on what the coach has planned for us and we go back to the joint ball as usual today to work towards the preparation for the game and just focus on getting the three points and we'll take care of the rest on the next day.
01:28And he also made a call for the football fans to show up in their numbers.
01:33Just want to say I'm looking forward to seeing you guys out there, that 12-man for Toronto and Tobago.
01:39And we try our best to make you all proud and bring the energy and bring the vibes in the stadium tomorrow.
01:45The two teams clash from 7.30 p.m.
01:47Sidon Dupont, TV6 Board.
01:49Well, to pick yourself up and try again is in full effect over here as West Indies skipper Shea Hope wants to put the ODI series loss to England behind him
01:58and focus on the T20 series starting tomorrow.
02:01Hope wants its players to learn from the defeat as they move forward.
02:06The West Indies have made it harder for themselves in trying to automatically qualify for the fifth-year-old World Cup on the African continent.
02:13This after losing the ODI series 3-0 to England recently.
02:17The attention switches to the T20 format starting Friday and Wendy's wide ball captain Shea Hope wants us men to learn from the defeat and focus on what's ahead.
02:25I would just say we just need to adapt a bit quicker, assess the conditions and obviously play a particular situation a little bit better.
02:34But it's a different squad now.
02:37We have to put that ODI series behind us, you know, take the learnings from it for sure.
02:42And then look ahead.
02:43We've got a new captain, some experienced players coming back into the T20 side.
02:49Regarding the opposition, Hope has utmost respect for the English.
02:52Like the Windies, England have two T20 World Cup titles and they also won the series in the Caribbean last year.
02:59England is one of those teams who are always going to be coming at us and how we're going to stop them is the biggest question.
03:05So the conversation is going to be ongoing.
03:07It's not something that started last week or a month ago.
03:10It's been going for a long time.
03:12And yes, just make sure we're on top of whatever they throw at us and make sure we're ready for the challenge.
03:17Included in the West Indies, T20 squad are all-rounders Jason Holder and Andrew Russell with the Jamaicans selected only for the England leg and not Ireland.
03:26According to Hope, the two are an asset who can share a lot with the team.
03:30For Jason, Russ, again, very experienced campaigners.
03:35They've done it all around the world and having both of them in the team is certainly going to be a big, big thing for us.
03:44And having that experience, having that firepower, they bring a lot of knowledge to the team.
03:49So not just on the field, you know, the conversation that you'd have, off the field, the learnings that you'd get from those two especially.
03:55It means a lot to the squad.
03:56Also with the side is another all-rounder in Romario Shepard, who lifted a maiden IPL trophy with Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
04:04And he's someone Hope also welcomes for both the England and Ireland legs.
04:08But yeah, he's shown, you know, great, great, great skill over the IPL season and he's in very good form.
04:15Very happy for his success.
04:17He's one of those cricketers that whenever good things happen to him, he deserves it.
04:21So happy to see that success he's been getting over the last couple of months.
04:25And yeah, hopefully he's ready to go here in this series.
04:29The teams play three T20s, with the venues being Chester La Street, Bristol and Southampton on June 6th, 8th and 10th respectively.
04:38Vinald, now on your team's export.
04:40Well, it's the ladies who come to the crease as new member of the West Indies team, Realiana Grimond,
04:46is pleased with a half-century as an honour ODI debut against England in the team's defeat.
04:51Grimond says her performance in last month's CWI Women's T20 Blaze, well, that gave her confidence moving forward.
04:59The West Indies surrendered the 50-over series to England after losing the second women's ODI in Leicester on Wednesday.
05:05It was also a game in which Realiana Grimond made 53 on debut as an opener for the ladies in Maroon.
05:11I was very, very excited to get on the field from the start and we had a good, I would say, a good partnership going on, me and Zeta, until she got out.
05:26But I was very confident and she was just keep talking to me too, telling me to back myself and just keep going.
05:34Prior to the England tour, Grimond was a member of the Guyana team that won this year's CWI Women's T20 Blaze.
05:41Having made 46 in the final against Jamaica, the 20-year-old right-handed batter is pleased to continue with that form on the international stage.
05:48Yeah, definitely. Like I said, that was a big plus for me, you know, having that good tournament recently and coming into this 50-over now, anti-20.
06:03I think that, you know, boosts my confidence and I just back myself.
06:11The West Indies are already 2-0 down in the ODIs with one more to play on Saturday in Taunton.
06:17So what must the visitors do to avoid a clean sweep?
06:20I think that, you know, if we could, you know, get a bigger score, it would be a big plus for us.
06:30Like, today, a lot of the girls stepped up and I think that if we, you know, step up as a team together and everybody, you know, chip in, it's going to be really, really good.
06:44Prior to the ODIs, the West Indies were swept aside 3-0 in the T20 series by England.
06:50Vinod Nawani, Teef's Export.
06:51All right, feet to the pedal, sensational teenage cyclist Jelani Ned is aiming to break more records at the UCI event Speed Paradise on June 19th.
07:02While Ned smashed Nicholas Paul's National Junior Flying 200-meter record in the sprint last year at the sim event,
07:08while further copping two silver medals at the Junior Pan American Track Championships in Peru.
07:13Well, he's backing himself to be a force to be reckoned with on home soil.
07:17Jelani Ned has chosen Team Drive Phase Sport.
07:22He has placed his front foot on the pedal and stands tall in his belief that he can rival the best in the world.
07:29He previously raced with Arima Wheelers and he has developed a track record of success.
07:33I have the junior record for the Flying 200-meter.
07:39This year, I was the National Sprint Champion, Keren Champion.
07:47I got a silver, two silvers in Junior Pan Am, 2024 in Peru.
07:54He will be taking part in the sprint and a Keren at the upcoming Speed Paradise and Carnival of Speed events.
08:00He will be up against some tough competition, some of whom he has great respect for.
08:04However, on the track, he will need to believe that he can surpass the likes of Kweisi Brown, Nicholas Paul and Jassane Philippe.
08:11They left a high benchmark and my goal is to come close or surpass the times that they have done in the past.
08:22So what is he hoping to improve?
08:23I am looking forward to riding with more experienced people.
08:28People who will be decent but faster than me.
08:32I would want to see what they would do and learn tactics from many different people from all over the world.
08:43He is in transition from secondary school to tertiary education and he wants to put his focus on information technology.
08:49For now, he is hoping to download some speed in preparation for Speed Paradise.
08:54Sergio DeFore, TV6 Sport.
08:56Well, sailing answers the frame as TNT sailor Stefan Steuven is ailing to make a name for himself on the international stage.
09:03Well, that is when he competes at the North American Championships in California.
09:07Steuven, who won bronze at the Caribbean Dinghy Championship, is using the event as a build-up towards the Junior Pan American Games.
09:14The North American Championships in California.
09:19That's the next target for sailor Stefan Steuven, whose ultimate goal is to get to the Olympics.
09:25For now, though, he is using this competition as a training regatta ahead of the Junior Pan American Games in Asuncion in August.
09:32What drew me to this event is that it is a qualifier for the Senior Pan American Games.
09:36So, it's really integral in its steps and the Senior Pan American Games is actually a qualifier for the Olympics, if I remember correctly.
09:48So, it's built in a way that you go from the Junior Pan American to the Senior Pan American and hopefully to the Olympics.
09:56Steuven indicated it's challenging to find races with an appropriate amount of contenders.
10:01So, how good is he at reading conditions?
10:03I would say, and I would be a little bit biased, but I would say I'm pretty good at reading the conditions because it's one thing to be able to hike the hardest, be able to be physically strong.
10:17But then it's another ball game to be able to look at the conditions you're dealt with and almost predict what the wind is going to do.
10:26And so, I've spent many years trying to learn it and I always learn, every day is a new day to learn more about what the wind could do.
10:37So, I would say that I am good, but always room for improvement.
10:41He's currently coached by his brother and Olympian Andrew Lewis.
10:45They are able to help him train to push beyond fatigue after over six hours at sea per day.
10:51My coach right now is actually my brother. He's training me in Trindad and then when I go to North Americans next week, Andrew Lewis, our Olympic sailor, will be coaching me there.
11:06So, I would say the coach is just really who pushes you past your limits.
11:12So, you know, you would have the limits for yourself and they would try and find that and really push past it.
11:18What makes the difference between a rookie sailor as opposed to a veteran?
11:22There's not only the physical aspect, but it's, the boat almost speaks to you in a sense.
11:27It tells you what it likes to do, what it needs to do to go fast.
11:32And so, getting that muscle memory, getting that feel for the boat, how to properly not jerk around the boat,
11:40just play the sailor, right, is one of the, what defines great sailors from world class.
11:49The North American Championships runs from June 12th to the 15th.
11:53He leaves tomorrow.
11:55On another note, the Secondary Schools Sailing League takes place this weekend at the Andrew Lewis Sailing Academy.
12:01Sergio Dufour, TV6 Sport.
12:02Well, the UEFA Nations League slides in as teenage sensation Lamin Yamal scored twice
12:09as Spain produced a superb display to beat France in a nine-goal thriller and set up a final with Portugal.
12:16Well, the Spaniards will now face Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal in Sunday's final.
12:21Spain scored first against France in the UEFA Nations League semis with Nico Williams finding the net in the 23rd minute.
12:27Nico Williams!
12:28Two minutes later, there was an exhibition from the Spaniards and Mikel Moreno did the rest.
12:34Here comes Spain again with Mikel Moreno and it is 2-0.
12:39In the second half, the French were culpable for this infringement inside the box.
12:43And there was Lamin Yamal who nonchalantly converted the penalty in the 54th.
12:48A minute later, there was another brilliant display from Spain and Pedri was the man to make it 4-0.
12:55France finally got a chance to break the deadlock following this foul
12:58which resulted in a penalty.
13:00Mbappe was the one to take it and make it count in the 59th.
13:04But Spain would regain their 4-goal cushion as Yamal notched the brace in the 67th minute of the match.
13:12France were trying to make a comeback with Cherki scoring a gem in the 79th.
13:16Was Spain cracking under pressure?
13:22Well, this own goal in the 84th took France closer.
13:26But this goal fest saw the French scoring one more in stoppage time courtesy Kolo Mwani.
13:31Spain won 5-4 to reach the final.
13:33Well, the slate is being filled as Uzbekistan and Jordan have qualified for their first World Cups
13:43while South Korea have also secured their place at the tournament.
13:47Well, they became the 8th, 9th and 10th teams to confirm their spots in the expanded 48-team tournament
13:54in the United States, Canada and Mexico next year.
13:59The three-hole staff qualified automatically while the latest cheer to qualify
14:04or they will join Japan, New Zealand, Iran and Argentina.
14:10Uzbekistan meanwhile drew goles with the United Arab Emirates
14:13while South Korea beat Iraq 2-0 later in the day to qualify for the 11th Street World Cup.
14:20Well, that result means that Jordan's Serena win against Uman
14:25well, that confirmed the historic qualification to the World Cup.
14:34Well, they may have been hammered but they did get a hammer in for play of the day.
14:39This UEFA Nations League goal fest between Spain and France
14:45saw Chirky collecting and controlling the ball
14:47before volleying home a beauty for the French.
14:49It was a semi-final. France would lose 5-4
14:56but this without a doubt was a sublime strike from Chirky.
15:01You can't win them all.
15:03Tough luck to the French
15:04but for that super strike, Chirky gets tonight's TV6.
15:08Playoff today.
15:09Hey! That's tremendous!
15:13Au revoir, France.
15:15Good goal nonetheless.
15:16All right, that's it for sport.
15:18For the team, I'm James Saunders.
15:19Out.
15:19See you later.
