00:00Hello and welcome. You're watching Business Today Television. I'm Sakshi Patra and with me is somebody very, very special, Mr. Musk.
00:05Well, it's not Elon Musk, but his father, Mr. Errol Musk.
00:09Welcome to India and thank you so much for joining me.
00:11What brings you to India, sir? And what are the things that you're most excited about here?
00:15Well, you know, mostly I'm excited just to be in India.
00:18It's something I should have done a long time ago.
00:21And yeah, it's just absolutely wonderful to be here.
00:23But I'm here at the invitation of a very progressive electrical engineering company.
00:30I'm an electrical engineer.
00:32And they are doing the thing that is so important these days.
00:37And that is learning new and better ways to store and charge electricity, green electricity, and store it and transmit it and save every electron.
00:50Let's put it like that. That's what we have to do.
00:53And this particular market is expected to grow tenfold in the next five years.
01:00Yes. And in India, how do you see India's push for EV, clean energy?
01:05Very good. Very good. Brilliant.
01:06And what are you excited about in India, apart from Cerbotech as well?
01:09Where do you see India growing when it comes to the EV push to the clean energy space as well?
01:13Well, I think India is now doing everything it can to push for electric vehicles and, you know, green energy and generation of energy in a less damaging way.
01:30Yeah. So you have a very enlightened government.
01:34And so I can't.
01:37It couldn't be better. It's really good.
01:40Everything looks really good.
01:41OK.
01:42And you can tell from the mood of the people.
01:44Yes.
01:45You know, when things are good.
01:46So you're already lining up to meet with the government officials, business industrialists as well.
01:51Could you let us know what is the agenda with which you're meeting the government?
01:54I haven't been given any specific agenda.
01:59But, you know, and I came to see the Cerbotech.
02:04And so that's the main thing.
02:06And then I'm also, what I am wanting to do is go and see a temple that is very, a Ram temple.
02:13You know, it's very interesting to me.
02:15And, you know, India's history fascinates me and should fascinate anyone.
02:20Yes.
02:21What are the Indian things you've tried yet?
02:24Have you tried any food items?
02:26Have you tried anything Indian, so to speak?
02:30Well, you know, in the world today, you can go to places where I live or in the United States where I go quite a lot.
02:37And you can go to Indian restaurants.
02:39Yes.
02:39So it's not as though you need to go to India.
02:41Yes.
02:42And you can sample, you know.
02:45Have you tried to learn a little bit of language in Hindi language?
02:48Oh, I have, yes.
02:49Yes, I have.
02:50I've learned one thing.
02:51What?
02:51I don't want to try it out.
02:52Namaste.
02:55Namaste.
02:56Okay.
02:57You know, let's talk about your son, Elon Musk.
03:00Everybody really, you know, thinks about him as the tech mogul, one of the leading visionaries in the innovation world right now.
03:07Tell me, how was he in the growing up years?
03:09What is the kind of things that you noticed in his early years that really thought that, you know, you thought that, you know, he's going to be becoming the person that he is today?
03:17Well, you know, you know, I have two sons and they're both very successful and the one was very into the technical computer world.
03:25The other one was very into making food.
03:27So both of them have been extremely successful.
03:30And the younger one has many thousands of food outlets.
03:34And that's Kimball.
03:36And then Elon, you know, he's a lot like me.
03:39You know, I was fascinated by Sputnik and, you know, atomic explosions and so forth.
03:46And we grew up in that world.
03:48We spoke about it all the time.
03:49The boys grew up with me after their mother and I separated.
03:52So, you know, we were doing that all the time.
03:55We traveled together.
03:56What was he like?
03:58Two easiest children you could ever have.
04:00But then I did travel a lot.
04:01So they had a little sister that came with.
04:04So I had to rely on them from a very early age.
04:08So by the time they were 12, they'd been to most of the major cities in the world.
04:11What are the lessons that you imparted in him when he was growing up?
04:15Well, to be responsible, really.
04:17And parents, I gave them responsibility from a very early age.
04:22But you have to use a little care.
04:26But I made sure that they felt responsible.
04:28How do you feel when they say that, you know, you're the father of the world's richest person?
04:33Well, I don't think we see it like that.
04:36You know, even if you ask Elon, he'd say, I think I'm five years behind where I should be, you know.
04:42And, you know, we don't see it like that.
04:44We see it more, are we making a difference, you know.
04:49And we have our disappointments just like anybody else.
04:54Okay.
04:54Okay.
04:55What is the project that really touched your heart that he worked upon?
04:58Was it Tesla?
04:59Was it Starlink?
05:00Was it SpaceX?
05:01What were you most proud of that he created?
05:04Well, I worked at SpaceX right in the beginning when he first said he wants, I was living in L.A.
05:10And he said to me, he's thinking of building a rocket.
05:13And we went together.
05:15At the time, I used to make rockets as a child myself, toy rockets, you know, little things.
05:19And at the time, well, he just sold PayPal.
05:24So, I took him quite seriously.
05:27So, we went and found an old warehouse in L.A. and we started cleaning it up.
05:33My job was to try and clean it up, this somewhat tatty warehouse, which today, it looks like a hospital inside.
05:42Okay.
05:42You know, and they made the film Iron Man in it.
05:46Yeah, I know.
05:46So, what has made me most interested, all of the things, all of the things they do, it's very interesting to me.
05:53I'm telling them nowadays that they need to move on to a new thing.
05:59We need to understand gravity.
06:02You know, rockets and all that are fine.
06:04But they are not going to, in my opinion, other people will shoot me down, they're not going to get us to Mars.
06:11Because interplanetary travel in a rocket is not a good idea.
06:15If you've ever been across the ocean in a little yacht, which I've done many times, then you have some idea what that is like.
06:23And so, I tell them we need to study gravity.
06:27We need to study space-time travel.
06:29You know, where you see it in the movies, you know, and Star Wars and, you know, all that sort of thing.
06:37You see the future.
06:39But unless we can understand gravity, and unless we can understand space-time travel, which we will understand in due course, when we get down to it, we're not going to be able to do the things we see in the movies.
06:52Absolutely.
06:53Last one question will be on Trump.
06:55You know, everybody's talking about him.
06:57I want to understand from you as a businessman, as an entrepreneur, what do you think about Trump policies right now?
07:02The tariff policies that everybody's talking about.
07:05Very good.
07:06Everybody's going to benefit from it.
07:08Everybody's going to benefit.
07:09We have the so-called leading country in the world, led now by a businessman.
07:16And Elon is a businessman.
07:18Elon's not going to leave the government.
07:20He has, but...
07:21No, he's not going to leave.
07:24He's not going to leave?
07:25No, no.
07:27You've been a politician yourself.
07:29I have, yes.
07:29You see, once you experience that level of things, it's very hard to go back to sorting switches or whatever it is you did before, you know.
07:38No, no.
07:39He'll still be there.
07:40And Trump has said he's not going anywhere.
07:43So, no, we have a leading country led by the right people now, not by career politicians who've never run a...
07:54never sold a hamburger or something like that.
07:56But, you know, we have proper people now, so we can only look forward to good things.
08:01Okay.
08:01Yeah, all the very best to you.
08:02Thank you so much.
08:03It was a pleasure to speak to you, sir.
08:04Okay, thank you.
08:05Thank you so much.
