00:39The House of Representatives impeached Duterte the same day.
00:42Senate President Chief Escudero postponed the first step of the proceedings
00:46the reading of the articles of impeachment from June 2 to June 11.
00:50June 11 is the final day of the 19th Congress.
00:53The leaked resolution also argues that 20th Congress cannot continue
00:57with the impeachment trial because, quote,
01:00all pending matters and proceedings shall terminate
01:02upon the expiration of one Congress
01:04but may be taken by the succeeding Congress
01:06if presented for the first time.
01:08Meantime, Congresswoman-elect Laila de Lima says
01:11the regular Senate has no power to dismiss an impeachment case
01:14unless it convenes as an impeachment court.
