00:00Spider-Man sure is a goof, isn't he? I mean, that's kind of the whole appeal of the character.
00:05Given his setup of superpowers not making his life any better, combined with his comedic persona,
00:10it's no wonder that there are some moments where Peter falls flat on his face.
00:14And it's nothing short of hilarious.
00:16With this in mind, I'm Dan from WhatCulture, and here are the 8 most embarrassing Spider-Man moments.
00:22Number 8. The Spider-Mobile.
00:25Amazing Spider-Man number 130.
00:27When Marvel Editorial signed a toy deal for a Spider-Man-themed vehicle,
00:32the writer at the time, Jerry Conway, was all but forced at gunpoint to find a way to incorporate it into the comic itself.
00:39Thus, the Spider-Mobile was born.
00:41This thing had to be one of the most infamously goofy parts of the Conway era.
00:45Looking back, the funny thing about this book is how so much of it is about how this is an obviously terrible idea that was doomed to fail.
00:54I mean, why would Spider-Man need a call?
00:56Just imagine this.
00:58Quick, Spidey.
00:59Hammerhead has 10 hostages at gunpoint and is going to start executing them, so please help us.
01:04Oh, but you're stuck in traffic again?
01:06Well, I guess we'll just die.
01:08It's so absurd, yet so hilarious at the same time.
01:12The Spider-Mobile would quickly exit the story,
01:14as Conway had basically nothing but absolute contempt for the idea.
01:18And frankly, who could blame him?
01:21Number 7. Trying to beat up Superman.
01:23Superman meets the Amazing Spider-Man.
01:26Back when Marvel and DC's rivalry was friendlier,
01:29they decided to make a big crossover between their most iconic characters.
01:33And who wouldn't want to see the Amazing Spider-Man interact with Superman?
01:37So, with the stars aligning like this, it was only natural that DC and Marvel jumped on it.
01:42And it doesn't take long for Spider-Man and Superman to come to blows.
01:46The resulting fight is one of the best hero vs. hero fights out there,
01:50as Spidey is powered by red sun radiation, courtesy of Lex Luthor,
01:55which gives him that extra edge in combat.
01:57But, as Spidey learns, when that radiation goes away,
02:01he's little more than a nuisance to Superman.
02:03As short a moment as it is,
02:05the image of Spidey just wailing uselessly at Superman's indestructible six-pack
02:09is just plain hilarious.
02:11Number 6. Getting stuck in the outer boroughs.
02:15Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man number 14.
02:18As Spider-Man Homecoming so aptly demonstrated,
02:21Peter is hilariously useless the second you take him out of New York City.
02:25And that joke originated in an issue of Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man,
02:29where, whilst trying to catch up with the villain of the week,
02:32Spidey finds himself stuck in the suburbs of the outer boroughs.
02:36With nothing taller than a streetlight to swing from,
02:39Spider-Man has to resort to booking it as fast as humanely possible.
02:43No tall buildings means no web swinging,
02:46and no web swinging means that he's just a weirdo in a red and blue onesie
02:50running through the suburb in the middle of the night.
02:52Spider-Man would, of course, manage to just barely catch up to the villain
02:56that put him in this predicament,
02:58but I imagine he's also very thankful that everyone was asleep for this moment.
03:03Number 5. The Bombastic Bagman.
03:06Amazing Spider-Man number 258.
03:08It really does help to have friends when you're in a tight spot,
03:11but Spidey should really know better than to ask Johnny Storm for help with anything.
03:15Long story short, Spidey lost his clothes,
03:18and had to get home without people saying that Spider-Man is
03:22A. The newspaper photographer Peter Parker
03:24and B. Buck-ass naked.
03:26So, in a lapse of logic so great,
03:29all sympathy for Peter goes out the window,
03:32he turned to his buddy, Johnny Storm,
03:34who offered him one of the Fantastic Four's suits
03:36and a paper bag with some holes in it to hide his face.
03:40So, Spidey had to swing all the way home looking like that,
03:44most likely confusing the hell out of a lot of people
03:46before he got home.
03:48Number 4. Making Web Undies.
03:51Amazing Spider-Man number 2.
03:52One of the most controversial parts of Dan Slott's tenure
03:55as the head writer of Spider-Man
03:57was the superior Spider-Man,
03:59where Spidey's body has his long-time nemesis,
04:02Otto Octavius, in the driver's seat.
04:04Otto, however, uses this opportunity
04:06to improve upon Spider-Man's mission as a hero.
04:09As divisive as it was,
04:11it actually turned out to be one of the best things
04:13Slott ever did with his run on Spider-Man.
04:15However, of course, the status quo beckons
04:18and Peter eventually retook control of his body.
04:21And just to go the extra mile
04:23and to prove that it actually was Peter Parker
04:25back in control,
04:27he's back in the saddle for not even 5 minutes
04:29before he gets all of his clothes zapped off
04:32and has to web himself up some underwear,
04:34failing to realise until it was far, far too late
04:37that Otto had improved his web formula
04:39to make it dissolve significantly slower than normal.
04:42So, when he goes to reunite with the Avengers
04:45and explain his weird behaviour the past few months,
04:48he goes there wearing the pants he had on as Peter
04:50because his web undies have stuck them to his body.
04:53And, to top it all off,
04:54he really has to pee.
04:56Number 3,
04:58Made Black Cat Puke,
04:59Ultimate Spider-Man number 85.
05:01Since Peter was a teenager for longer in the Ultimate Universe
05:05than he was in the 616 continuity,
05:07we get to see him trip up a whole lot more,
05:10one of which is simultaneously one of the funniest
05:12and grossest moments in the comic.
05:15While Peter is a teenager for the entire run,
05:17Black Cat is a grown woman.
05:19At first,
05:20their relationship is about the same as it is in the main universe,
05:24but in issue 85,
05:25Black Cat is made aware of the elephant
05:27she wasn't aware that was in the room.
05:29She offers a kiss,
05:31and for the first time,
05:32Peter takes off his mask in front of her.
05:34Then, Black Cat realises this whole time
05:37that she's been flirting with a teenager,
05:40and promptly pukes up her last 3-4 meals onto the floor,
05:44while Peter watches on awkwardly.
05:46And while it isn't just Peter to blame for this,
05:48Black Cat has to hold some responsibility here.
05:51Because sure,
05:51Peter's suit doesn't give any obvious indicators of age,
05:54but one would think that his voice would really give away
05:57that he's currently going through puberty.
05:59And really,
06:00no one walks away from this situation looking good.
06:03Number 2,
06:04SpiderFail.com
06:06Web of Spider-Man number 8
06:07With how often Spidey screws up on a regular basis,
06:11it was inevitable that the internet would do what the internet does.
06:14J. Jonah Jameson has dedicated his entire career
06:17to tearing down the wall crawler,
06:19always trying to find the perfect proof
06:21that shows Spidey is a menace to society at large.
06:24It's an obsession that's sometimes justified,
06:27and sometimes just played for laughs.
06:28But whichever interpretation of Jameson is your favourite,
06:32this scene would likely please all of them.
06:34Jameson has shown a new site on the internet called SpiderFail.com,
06:39which is exactly what it says on the tin.
06:41An online greatest hits album of Spider-Man's best goofs.
06:45From being terrorised by an old woman and her cat,
06:48to slamming face-first into buildings,
06:50mid-web swing.
06:51It's got it all,
06:52and Jameson, naturally,
06:54reacts to this like a kid on Christmas.
06:56After all,
06:57this is literally everything he's ever wanted.
06:59Seeing as how this site is literally dedicated to how much of a goober Spider-Man is,
07:04the fact that it's probably still around to this day,
07:07means that this moment was pretty much destined to be here on this list.
07:10And number one,
07:12he outed himself to the X-Men.
07:14Ultimate Spider-Man number 44.
07:16Ultimate Peter Parker is probably the biggest screw-up Spider-Man in the multiverse,
07:21and besides making Black Cat violently question her life choices,
07:25he also accidentally gave away his secret identity to quite a few people,
07:29namely the X-Men.
07:30Now, the X-Men are pretty nice.
07:32Well, as nice as anyone can be in the Ultimate Universe.
07:35So, it isn't like Peter was in any danger,
07:37but he still likes to keep his secrets close to the chest.
07:41So, when he wakes up in the X-Men's infirmary,
07:43completely naked and exposed,
07:45he laments the fact that now an entire mansion's worth of people
07:49know that Spider-Man is actually Peter Parker,
07:51only to then be told that they didn't know his name.
07:54Just his forgettable bland face,
07:57that would have likely faded from memory as soon as the mask went back on.
08:00So, Peter essentially outed himself to the entire X-Men for no reason.
08:06Brilliant.
08:06And that's our list.
08:08You can find more videos like this on screen now.
08:11For now though, I've been Dan,
08:13and I'll catch you in the next one.
