Meet the new snow leopard cubs at PNHZP

Two snow leopard cubs were recently born at the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park, Darjeeling.

00:04Darjeeling isn't just about tea, it's saving snow leopards too.

00:08Two adorable snow leopard cubs were born at the Padmacha Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park,

00:13also known as the biggest snow leopard squad in captivity.

00:16The snow leopard were not the proper attraction here at Darjeeling.

00:20So usually, tourist's top preference is that the snow leopard cubs were born at Padmacha Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park,

00:27or PNHZP is home to 13 snow leopards, including 4 males, 7 females and 2 newly born cubs.

00:35These cubs were born to the power couple, Reir and Namka.

00:39Reir was notably named by CM Mamata Banerjee herself in 2011.

00:44These babies were born on April 13, 2025 and are getting VIP treatment at the Topke Dangra,

00:50the zoo's off-display breeding centre, where all the magic happens.

00:54We came here in a hurry today, but we were very excited.

00:57We wanted to see the snow leopard since we don't get to see it in Kolkata or areas around it.

01:02I thoroughly enjoyed it.

01:03WAZA lauded the Darjeeling Zoo for successfully breeding snow leopards for the past 30 years,

01:09with 77 cubs born and 6 in 2025 alone.

01:13Snow leopards are the OG ghosts of the mountain.

01:16Super rare, crazy elusive and very much vulnerable in the wild, with only 4,000 to 7,500 left.

01:24That's why this breeding program is a lifeline for the species in Southeast Asia.
