00:00Jesus was expelling a demon that had made a man unable to speak.
00:04When the demon came out, the man who had been mute began to speak, and the crowds were amazed.
00:10People stared at the man, stunned. Some cheered, others whispered in awe,
00:14Who is this man? But not everyone was happy about what they saw.
00:18Some of them began to say, He expels demons by means of Beelzebub, the ruler of the demons.
00:25Others, trying to test him, demanded a sign from heaven.
00:28They weren't satisfied with what they had just witnessed. They wanted more proof.
00:32But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said to them,
00:36Every kingdom divided against itself becomes desolate, and a house divided against itself falls.
00:43If Satan is also divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand?
00:48You're saying that I expel the demons by means of Beelzebub.
00:51But if I expel the demons by means of Beelzebub, by whom do your sons expel them?
00:56This is why they will be your judges.
00:59Jesus looked at the crowd and continued,
01:02However, if it is by means of God's finger that I expel the demons,
01:06then the kingdom of God has really overtaken you.
01:09He then gave them an illustration to help them understand.
01:12When a strong man, fully armed, guards his palace, his belongings are secure.
01:18But when someone stronger than he comes and conquers him,
01:21that man takes away all his weapons in which he was trusting and divides up the goods he has taken.
01:27Jesus paused and said firmly,
01:30Whoever is not on my side is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.
01:36Then he gave a serious warning.
01:38When an unclean spirit comes out of man, it passes through waterless places in search of a resting place.
01:45But when it finds none, it says,
01:48I will go back to my house from which I moved.
01:50When it returns, it finds the house swept clean and adorned.
01:55Then it goes and brings along seven other spirits more wicked than itself.
02:01And after getting inside, they dwell there.
02:04And the final circumstances of that man become worse than the first.
02:08As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd called out with emotion.
02:14Happy is the womb that carried you and the breast that nursed you.
02:18But he said,
02:20Rather, happy are those hearing the word of God and keeping it.
02:24As the crowds continued to grow, more people were pressing in to see and hear him.
02:28But Jesus saw through their hearts.
02:31He knew that many were only interested in seeing miracles,
02:35not in truly changing their hearts.
02:37So he said to them,
02:39This generation is a wicked generation.
02:42It looks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah.
02:47He continued, teaching them more deeply.
02:50For just as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites,
02:53so the Son of Man will be a sign to this generation.
02:57Jesus then gave two powerful comparisons from Israel's history.
03:01The Queen of the South will be raised up in the judgment with the men of this generation
03:05and will condemn them because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon.
03:11But look, something more than Solomon is here.
03:14The men of Nineveh will rise in the judgment with this generation and will condemn it
03:20because they repented at what Jonah preached.
03:23But look, something more than Jonah is here.
03:25After the reading, in this powerful account, we see Jesus demonstrating the power of God's Spirit.
03:33He cast out a demon that had silenced a man, giving that man his voice back and, more importantly, his life.
03:39This miracle should have led everyone to praise God.
03:43And indeed, some were amazed and believed.
03:45But others, especially the skeptical and the proud, refused to believe what was right in front of them.
03:51Instead of seeing God's power, they accused Jesus of working with the devil.
03:57Jesus firmly refuted their false accusations with logic and spiritual insight.
04:02He reminded them that Satan would never fight against himself.
04:06Then he made it clear.
04:08The power he used was from God, and that meant God's kingdom had already started to take action.
04:13But Jesus didn't stop there.
04:15He warned them not to take spiritual matters lightly.
04:18Finally, it's not enough to just get rid of evil.
04:21A person has to fill their life with truth and obedience to God,
04:25or else they might end up worse than before.
04:28And when a woman praised Jesus' mother,
04:30Jesus reminded her that real happiness doesn't come from being related to someone important.
04:36Real happiness comes from hearing God's Word and doing it.
04:40Finally, Jesus warned that those who ask for signs but ignore the truth
04:44are like people in the past who rejected God's messengers.
04:47He said that even people from faraway lands, like the Queen of Sheba and the people of Nineveh,
04:53would rise in the judgment and condemn this generation,
04:56because they listened to God's message when they heard it.
04:58And now, someone greater than Jonah, greater than Solomon.
05:03Jesus himself was standing in front of them.
05:05So what has just happened?
05:07Jesus performed a clear miracle.
05:10He freed a man from the control of a demon.
05:12But more than that, he revealed people's hearts.
05:16Those who believed saw a glimpse of God's kingdom.
05:19Those who refused to believe exposed their own spiritual blindness.
05:24Jesus wasn't just a miracle worker.
05:26He was the king of God's kingdom,
05:28the one greater than all who came before him.
05:31This moment invites each of us to think.
05:34When we see God's power or hear his message,
05:36how do we respond?
05:38With faith and obedience,
05:40or with skepticism and hardness of heart?
