00:00So what was Beatlemania to you at the height of it when it was as busy as what, 1964, 65?
00:08No sleep with all the mail.
00:11How many letters a week were you getting roughly?
00:14Oh God, thousands. Two to three thousand a day.
00:20Must have sat up till four or five o'clock in the morning just answering.
00:24I used to do all what we call detailed letters.
00:28I used to just bring all them home.
00:30And then go back to work with my little parcel the next day.
00:33I don't know how I lived.
00:34The type of questions kids would ask in the fan club letters was, you know, can I have a piece of Paul's shirt?
01:04So if I send you a map, can you ask Paul to come round at six o'clock?
01:09Because I'm having a party and I'd like him to come.
01:11I'm so glad that she's my little girl.
01:16Then it got a bit out of hand because then people wanted hair and it was the same barber that cut the hair.
01:23It was always this one guy.
01:25I mean, I mean, it was the hair, they probably do DNA on it now.
01:29He would have like a mat down on the floor or something and cut the hair.
01:34And then he said, because he thought I was mental.
01:39And he just said, there you go, do you want that bit?
01:43I go, yeah, yeah, thanks.
01:44Somebody sent a pillowcase in and said, can you get Richie to sleep on this pillowcase and then send it back to me and get him to sign it?
02:02And I must have known that he was going to be home for three days.
02:05So I just threw that in my bag and took it to his house and said, can you sleep on that tonight?
02:11And I signed it then.
02:13And I remember saying to Elsie, that was his mum, can you make sure he sleeps on it?
02:18Anyway, he brought it in, you know, just said, yeah.
02:21And then I just sent it out to the girl, whether she believed me or not that he'd slept on it.
02:24But he did, he put his head on that pillow.
02:30Honestly, if I could do it, I would do it.
02:33Because, you know, I was one of them and I was a fan myself.
02:36So I knew where they were coming from.
