00:00And do you think that Macron will actually go ahead with this move?
00:04You've said he's a middle roader, but are these just empty words from the French president at the moment?
00:12Well, as we know from the entire history of the Israel-Palestine conflicts, words frequently turn out to be weasel ones.
00:21And again, we need to recognize what a duplicitous politician President Macron can be.
00:27He says one thing to impress one set of people and then says something completely different to another set of people.
00:34But in recent weeks, his foreign minister has suggested there could be sanctions against Israel.
00:42And so perhaps something is changing.
00:44And it was only last week that Jean-Noël Barrault came out with some of the most emotive words about Palestine that I think I've heard from a French government minister.
00:54And he said, and this is a quote from him, we cannot leave the children of Gaza a legacy of violence and hatred.
01:03So all this must stop.
01:05And that's why we're determined to recognize a Palestinian state.
01:08And I think those words aptly sum up the change in the French position.
01:13The French find the images coming out of Gaza absolutely abhorrent.
01:20And they know that radical measures are needed to stop Israel's war crimes and indeed crimes against humanity.
