Young barefoot runner from Western Visayas bags 2 gold medals in Palarong Pambansa
Running barefoot, Trixia Anne Arellano, who just covered her feet with tape instead of shoes, bags two gold medals at the 65th Palarong Pambansa in Laoag City. Representing Westen Visayas, the 11-year-old from Concepcion, Iloilo said she found running on barefoot lighter and easier. Arellano gifted herself with her first gold on May 27, 2025, her birthday, as she clocked 26.40 seconds in the elementary girls 200m event at the Ferdinand E. Marcos Memorial Stadium, even topping the old meet record 26.7 set by Maureen Echrijvers in 2008. On May 28, Arellano then claimed her second gold by submitting a time of 12.84 seconds in the girls 100m event, .04 seconds shy of tying the record 12.8 by Irene Mojar in 1997.
