00:00Datuk Shri Rafizi Ramli on Wednesday announced his resignation as economy minister. He said
00:08he had submitted his resignation letter to Prime Minister Datuk Shri Anwar Ibrahim. Rafizi
00:13said he will now go on annual leave until June 16 and his resignation will take effect
00:19from June 17. He said he is confident that the programs to revamp the nation's economic
00:24structure will be carried out well by the ministry staff. He said his last task as the minister
00:30was to produce the 13th Malaysia Plan, which will be tabled in Parliament. He said the
00:35plan will focus on educational reforms, including several structural reforms in the education
00:41ministry. He said he hoped that the cabinet will retain the bold reforms outlined in the
00:46plan even though he is no longer a cabinet member. Rafizi said his defeat in the recent PKR
00:53election means that he does not have the mandate from the party to carry out his job to implement
00:59government programs as minister. He said in a democratic country, leaders who lost in the
01:08party election will have to make way for the winners to take the place in the government.
01:14Rafizi was defeated by Nurul Iza Anwar for the PKR deputy president's post in the party elections
01:20last week.
