00:00Women like these are growing more visible in Taiwan's military.
00:05The trend started in 2023 when the first women reservists started training,
00:09and it could be spreading to the officer corps.
00:12The number of women enrolling in military academies is growing relative to men,
00:16and relative to expectations.
00:18This year, National Defense University hasn't followed its normal gender quota for admissions.
00:24Its engineering, political warfare, and management tracks
00:27all have more women and fewer men than expected.
00:30This isn't to say there's a gender balance across the board.
00:33Men outnumber women in engineering two to one.
00:37But in one case, the management course, women have overtaken men,
00:41overshooting the gender quota by 210% in the process.
00:45As lawmakers wonder about this trend,
00:47the defense minister says the same standards apply to all students, regardless of gender.
00:52Why men are now in the army,
00:56that would be less than men than men?
00:59We've had a number of positions,
01:02and we don't think women's performance will be worse than men.
01:07Let's see.
01:11Though it doesn't explain the drop in men's enrollment,
01:13one possible reason being floated for women's growing interest in military careers
01:17is the fact that it pays.
01:19Last month, the military raised pay for base-level officers and soldiers
01:23by up to 400 U.S. dollars a month.
01:26Officials say the move has been especially helpful
01:28when it comes to holding on to personnel.
01:30To the end of the day,
01:32there are 600 people coming back.
01:35There are 87 people coming back.
01:39But after the加薪,
01:41they will come back.
01:43For not obligated like men to do military service,
01:45Taiwan's women are showing a growing commitment
01:48to playing a role in national defense.
01:50And what's begun at the bottom of the ranks
01:52shows signs of rising to higher levels.
01:55Howard Zhang and John Van Trieste for Taiwan Plus.
01:58So,
01:59there are groups of people coming back now.
02:03When students move on,
02:06they will take their work in various sectors.
02:08They will take their work out.
02:09But they are trying to form a large part of the project,
02:11so they will be constantly using advisory programs.
02:12They will take their work out.
02:13They are not interested in the project.
02:14They will take their work out,
02:15so they will take their work out,
02:17so they will take their work out.
02:19So thank you.
02:21You will be able to make them very simple.
