Malaysia, Laos reaffirm support for Timor-Leste’s Asean bid

Malaysia and Laos have reiterated their strong support for Timor-Leste’s full Asean membership and called for intensified, inclusive efforts to address Myanmar’s prolonged crisis.   Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said both countries agreed that it was time to finalise Timor-Leste’s accession process. 00:00We did discuss also the ascension of Timor-Leste, hopefully by Oktober this year,

00:06if we can retain our consensus in this meeting tomorrow, particularly in the following retreat.

00:16And then we did discuss too concerning Myanmar, the need to continue humanitarian assistance,

00:26but the need for all parties in Myanmar to respect the need for peace, immediate ceasefire,

00:34and then to try and work through the ASEAN mechanism and understanding using the five-point consensus among ASEAN countries.

00:45Prime Minister have agreed to come again, at least for a working visit, hopefully in the near future,

00:53so that this engagement, government-to-government, and also with the private sector can be further enhanced.
