00:12The Trump administration has further tightened its grip on the United States' oldest university,
00:18Harvard, following funding cuts.
00:21According to a new decision by the administration, the university will no longer be able to admit
00:26foreign students.
00:27This decision has intensified the ongoing tension between Harvard authorities and the
00:32Trump administration.
00:34In a statement released by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on Thursday, it was announced
00:38that Harvard would not be able to admit any more foreign students.
00:43Furthermore, currently enrolled foreign students must transfer to other institutions or they
00:48will lose their legal status.
00:50U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem also confirmed the U.S. government's new
00:55decision.
00:56She wrote on the social media platform X, Harvard University has failed to comply with
01:01the law.
01:02Therefore, the institution will not be allowed to admit foreign students.
01:06This serves as a warning to all universities and academic institutions across the country.
01:12According to Harvard University data, approximately 7,000 international students were admitted to
01:17the institution last academic year, which accounted for 27.2 percent of the total student enrollment
01:24for that year.
01:25In a statement condemning the government's new decision, Harvard called it an unlawful move.
01:31University spokesperson Jason Newton said,
01:33We are working quickly to provide guidance and support to members of our community.
01:38This retaliatory action threatens serious harm to the Harvard community and our country and undermines
01:46Harvard's academic and research mission. Since taking office as President of the United States in
01:52January, Donald Trump began cutting federal government funding to Harvard University. Citing the
01:58University as being plagued by deep problems of discrimination, his administration has already
02:03reduced its funding by $2.65 billion. Harvard University authorities have taken the matter to court.
02:10The U.S. President Donald Trump administration has revoked Harvard University's permission to admit
02:16foreign students and has also ordered current foreign students to cease transferring to other
02:21institutions. Additionally, other colleges have been threatened with similar stringent actions. The
02:28Department of Homeland Security stated in a release that Secretary Kristi Noem has ordered the cancellation of
02:33Harvard's Student and Exchange Visitor Program, SEVP, certification, effective from the 2025 to 2026
02:41academic year. Noem has accused Harvard of promoting terrorism, anti-Semitism, and coordinating with the
02:49Chinese Communist Party. Harvard has denounced this decision as illegal and retaliatory,
02:54pledging to stand by the thousands of affected students. This decision adds a new dimension to the
03:00Trump administration's ongoing campaign against Harvard. This Ivy League university, located in
03:06Cambridge, Massachusetts, has become one of Trump's primary targets. This action was taken after Harvard
03:12refused to provide information on some foreign visa-holding students. This decision could impact
03:18thousands of international students studying at Harvard. According to university data, over 6,700
03:25international students were enrolled their last academic year, making up 27 percent of the total
03:31student population. The news quickly spread across campus on Thursday, creating fear and frustration
03:37among students whose futures have suddenly become uncertain.
