Let's go back to the second Test match between Pakistan and Australia, played in Brisbane
00:05
from November 27 to December 1, 1981.
00:09
In this match, Pakistan's legendary fastballer Imran Khan gave a brilliant performance.
00:14
He bowled 40 overs including 6 mid-ins and took 4 wickets for 92 runs.
00:19
Even though Pakistan lost the match by 10 wickets, but Imran Khan's spell was a treat
00:23
to watch.
00:24
When he is in full rhythm, it's pure joy for cricket fans.
00:27
Now it is the perfect time to look back and enjoy this golden memory from the 1981 series
00:33
between Australia and Pakistan.
00:57
As you can see, and hitting Hughes above the pad.
01:03
That's something that Hughes has got to get accustomed to.
01:05
That ball will bounce far more than the older ball.
01:09
Khan gave Hughes a stinging blow with his first delivery with that new ball, and here the
01:14
baller puts the issue completely beyond doubt.
01:17
And at the start of the match, that was the story, Greg Chappell.
01:22
18 centuries, now moves on to 19, just below Harvey and Sir Donald Bradbury.
01:29
He's bowled him!
01:30
What a beautiful delivery that from Imran Khan, the ball just holding up, and it seemed that
01:34
Kim Hughes thought that he had it covered.
01:37
Well, it beat the outside edge of the bat and hit off stump.
01:39
So the end of Kim Hughes out of bowls by Imran Khan for 28.
01:43
Just the shot in the arm that Pakistan needed.
01:46
With Hughes there, beaten by the movement off of him, and I still feel that his head was not
01:52
behind the line of the ball completely.
01:54
That's the end of Hughes.
01:56
Deceived Hughes completely.
01:57
He thought the ball was coming in.
02:00
The ball, in fact, held its own, and Hughes finished up playing just inside the line of the ball.
02:08
And the fourth wicket now has fallen, with the Australian total of 200 seconds over, 4-4-3-20.
02:16
Imran Khan to Wellham.
02:20
Oh, he didn't handle that well at all.
02:22
Imran going around the wicket gave him a nasty one, stirred him up.
02:27
Bought the breakfast up a bit.
02:31
And that is right between the eyes.
02:34
Shows the value of a batsman who is not confident of avoiding them,
02:41
their value in wearing a helmet.
02:42
That has pinned the Australian badge, that one.
02:46
Straight between the eyes, and Dirk Wellham didn't handle that one too well at all.
02:50
It always should try and get inside the line of it, if you're attempting to hook,
02:56
or whether you're not going to hook at all.
02:58
Oh, that was nearly a chance.
03:07
Short leg was up, and the ball went to ground.
03:09
The end of a very good over for Imran.
03:11
It was a good follow-up from Imran, not a bouncer on that occasion.
03:18
Short into the ribs, and Sikanda just up a little bit too much.
03:23
Australia 4-320.
03:25
The goal that he's able to deliver one ball such as this.
03:33
Oh, well, ball.
03:35
Now, that's that same ball that kept low, but even before it kept low,
03:40
it was the one that came back in the air very, very sharply, and then kept on after three.
03:47
And what a great fire Imran Karnes.
03:50
As you saw, it went between the gate, as Richie Benno said.
03:52
Wellham was beaten by the movement of that ball, but certainly also by the fact
03:56
that it kept exceptionally low after pitching very, very short indeed.
04:00
So Wellham has been torpedoed. The total five for 439.
04:09
But there were some mysterious bowling changes in the part of Meandad.
04:14
After he took the second new ball, he bowled eight overs with it,
04:18
and then immediately took his quicker bowlers off and put his spinners on in the person of Rajah,
04:22
whom he followed with Ejaz.
04:24
So he obviously feels there's not much in this wicket for the quicker bowlers,
04:30
but Imran is proving him wrong.
04:33
By far the most successful bowler on the Pakistan side.
04:36
Now bowling to a leg-side field with two men behind square leg, ready for the hook,
04:41
with a missed time to loft it.
04:49
And across goes another man.
04:54
So far is just going to forward square leg.
05:04
Imran Khan to Rodney Marsh.
05:09
And there's a shout there.
05:10
Wazhin Bari is quite a bit.
05:12
Marsh is not too pleased at the appeal.
05:16
Imran is not too pleased at not having it allowed.
05:18
Here's the whole episode again.
05:26
And there was deflection, but did it come off the chest?
05:28
Or did it?
05:29
Didn't look to me as though it got anywhere near the bat, really.
05:32
Might be easier if we have a look at it from behind.
05:34
So we're going to have Imran Khan again after that slice of bad luck.
05:50
When Marsh was not out caught behind on the leg's side.
05:55
About to resume the attack against his old antagonist, Rodney Marsh.
06:08
It's up to Joker.
06:10
But just a little bit too forward.
06:12
Not bad tactics, really, because it seems that Imran has set up the trap.
06:23
Indicating to Marsh that he's going to pitch a couple short.
06:25
He's got two men behind, square, fairly deep.
06:28
And he was trying to pitch that ball up.
06:30
And there's the two men.
06:33
Right on the fence, indicating that the bouncer might be coming.
06:36
And then having lulled Marsh into that way of thinking,
06:39
the attempt would be full of pitch delivery.
06:42
And in fact, that's the leg bicycle.
06:45
So he goes back to 198.
06:53
Imran Khan to Rodney Marsh.
06:58
That all came from Imran Khan.
07:01
There's probably one from Rodney Marsh as well.
07:04
Five for four, four, five.
07:06
Press the crowd, roar.
07:07
Chappell looks at the bounce.
07:10
A real pressure decision coming on the umpire.
07:13
Pitching and darting in very quickly.
07:15
Greg Chappell just coming.
07:16
Rodney Marsh.
07:17
And Marsh is on 27.
07:19
In the commentary box, we have Tony Greg and Frank Tyson.
07:27
That's in the air and laid down the ground.
07:29
That could be out.
07:29
It's out caught.
07:30
Yes, so miscued there by Marsh.
07:32
The ball's skying up to Zaheer.
07:35
Makes no mistake with the catch.
07:36
And now Imran Khan level with Mahmood on 139 test wickets.
07:42
Handshake from Safras as a result of this wicket.
07:44
That ball moving into Marsh.
07:46
Marsh trying to hit him on the onside,
07:48
getting a leading edge,
07:49
skying to Zaheer at mid-off.
07:51
So Marsh is out.
07:52
The first wicket of the morning has fallen.
07:54
Seven for 469.
07:55
In the 1981 test series between Pakistan and Australia, Imran Khan was the star performer
08:02
for Pakistan.
08:03
Despite Australia winning the series 2-1, but Imran Khan all-round skills stood out
08:08
and earned him the Player of the Series award.
08:11
His fast-balling and determined batting made a big impact, especially in the final match of the
08:15
series.
08:16
Across the three-match series, Imran Khan took an impressive 16 wickets and scored 108 runs.
08:21
Imran Khan's exceptional performance throughout the series not only highlighted his individual
08:26
talent but also played a pivotal role in Pakistan's historic win in the final test.
08:31
His contributions with both bat and ball remain a highlight in the annals of cricket history.
08:36
Imran Khan is known for his pace, accuracy, and ability to swing the ball both ways.
08:42
He led Pakistan's bowling attack for over a decade, often delivering match-winning
08:46
performances, especially in tough conditions.
08:48
Imran Khan combined raw speed with smart tactics, making him a dangerous baller in both test and
08:54
ODI formats.
08:55
His ability to reverse swing the old ball revelationized fast-balling and inspired a
09:00
generation of passers around the world.
