00:00It will be remiss of me not to mention that also in this fight included the work of former Chief Secretary, Mr. Orville London, who must be given credit for having the most extensive public consultations on the issue of Tobago autonomy.
00:21And though many in the legal fraternity felt that the Tobago House of Assembly had no authority in law to pass a bill that sought to abridge the Constitution and to then send that down to Parliament, Mr. London pressed forward and in fact passed a bill which was transmitted to Parliament for Parliament to consider
00:50and to then enact laws for a new Tobago House of Assembly.
00:56Mr. Augustin said he would not rest until Tobago's autonomy is realized.
01:02I will not rest, whether I am Chief Secretary or whether I am ordinary citizen fairly, I will not rest until Tobago gets its autonomy.
01:11Mr. Augustin seemed to suggest Prime Minister Kamala Passat-Bissessa is not the enemy in Tobago's autonomy fight.
01:32And the current Prime Minister, so far, has mooted a position where she believes both islands are equal.
01:42Madam President, so long as the government continues to adopt that as the policy approach, the government will have my support.
01:54Minority Leader Kelvin Morris reiterated his objection to the motion.
01:58But it is sabotage, rebranded as salvation.
02:04This motion does not invite the people of Tobago.
02:07It does not even respect this House.
02:11Because we are told of this matrix that the Chief Secretary created.
02:17And he didn't have even the decency to bring it and share it with his peers.
02:22Let the House agree on this matrix before he engaged the parliamentarians in Trinidad.
