How to spot signs of Cannabis

Matt Brown, head of Merseyside Police's Cannabis Dismantling Team explains how you can spot signs of cannabis being grown near where you live

00:03dismantling team. Some people may think that a cannabis plant is an innocent plant

00:08however there are links to organised crime groups, gun crime, human trafficking

00:15and modern-day slavery to name a few. There are also major risks linked to

00:20destruction of property and damage to the the dwellings where the cannabis is

00:24being grown. This can be from flood damage to the huge amount of water that

00:29are being used. The fire damage because of the heat created by the growing

00:34equipment which poses a threat to not only the house where the cannabis is being

00:40grown but also neighbouring properties. This can be catastrophic at times. If you

00:46suspect that cannabis is being grown in the area, the things to look out for are

00:51strange pungent smells like vegetation, unusual comings and goings at various

00:57times of the day and night and windows and windows and doors being covered with

01:04blinds or plastic sheeting and the windows always being closed. If you suspect any of
