Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, speaking at a memorial for late President Ebrahim Raisi, expressed doubt about nuclear talks with the U.S., stating, “The American side in these indirect talks should avoid making absurd demands.”

Khamenei questioned their potential for success, noting past failures under Raisi’s term. Tensions over Iran’s uranium enrichment threaten a planned fifth round of negotiations in Rome.

Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht-Ravanchi said on Monday that talks would fail if Washington insists that Tehran refrains from domestic enrichment of uranium, which the U.S. says is a possible pathway to developing nuclear bombs. Iran maintains its nuclear program is peaceful.
