00:00Dan, usually we see you racing for others. You've raced for yourself today. It's your first win in the Grand Tour. What's the feeling?
00:10Yeah, it's unbelievable. I mean, it didn't sink in yet. I cannot believe it. I'm so happy. I'm full of emotions and I want to thank so many people.
00:20But yeah, it's crazy. I was aiming for this day and I was feeling good all week. But to win, I never thought I would do this.
00:30But I'm so, so happy. Of course, the GC guys, they had rain and that changed a lot. But yeah, I'm still happy.
00:37I could beat Tarling in more or less in the same conditions. And yeah, it's insane feeling. And I don't know what to say.
00:45Were you surprised to beat Tarling? Yeah, to be honest, yes. I mean, he's one of the best time trailists in the world.
00:51I think he started super fast. And when I saw his first intermediate time, yeah, then I was thinking it was hard to beat him.
00:59But then the second one, yeah, I did a good part, a second part. And I took some time back on him. And maybe he exploded a little bit.
01:06Yeah, it's crazy. I cannot understand it yet. Can this victory change your career?
01:12Yeah, for sure. Victory in the Giro is already so, so special. And I'm so happy. I want to thank the team.
01:21I want to thank my coach. Yeah, everyone. My parents, my brother. I don't know what to say. It's crazy.
01:29Proficiat.
01:31How many times did you check your weather apps today? Because yesterday you told me it was like tricky tricky.
01:37Yeah, not too much. I just focused on the TT. And then when I was in the old seat, I asked the team how it was at the finish.
01:47And, but to be honest, yeah, of course, if you win, you want to win because you're the fastest.
01:53But in the end, the GC guys had rain and yeah, cannot change anything about that.
01:59Next question.
01:59Two quick ones in one. The first one, who did you expect to win today?
02:07If I asked you yesterday and then, which, what made the difference, you know, where was the difference into the 28 kilometers in your opinion?
02:17Yeah, if you would ask me yesterday, I would for sure say Joshua Darling.
02:22I mean, I think he is the biggest time trial specialist in this race.
02:27Obviously, Roglic also showed in the last TT that he was doing a very good TT.
02:31So also he would be close, but yeah, he didn't have the right conditions to be able to contend for the victory.
02:38And I think I really made the difference on the hill.
02:42I started fast, but I managed to keep something left for like the small drag up.
02:49And then on the last part, I also, yeah, could go really fast and could really still push some good numbers.
02:57Steven?
02:57The team are doing really well.
03:02What's the secret or the reason?
03:05Is it team spirit?
03:06Is it technology?
03:07Everything?
03:08What's the reason for the success?
03:10I think the little products.
03:15The little products of little.
03:19No, I don't know.
03:20I think we just have a super good team.
03:22For sure, when Little joined the team, we had some extra budget to buy some better riders.
03:28But I think also if you see Mats or Chico, they were already a long time in the team.
03:33And yeah, they just improved year by year.
03:35And I think we have a super good team spirit and the right people behind the project with the right knowledge.
03:42And yeah, year by year we improved.
03:45And now we are at a super good level and we really have the leaders to win.
03:50And I think the rest is super committed to help them as good as possible to be able to win.
03:56Salas Tampa, press room.
03:59Hoi Dan, gefeliciteerd.
04:00Hans Rugenberg from The Telegraaf.
04:03Probably a victory like this is something you work all your life for.
04:07Can you explain how it feels when you succeed?
04:14Yeah, it feels really surreal.
04:17I didn't sink in yet.
04:19It's something really special.
04:21It's something you dream about a lot of times.
04:24Yeah, to win a stage in the zero.
04:26Yeah, it's something incredible.
04:28And something I didn't know I was going to achieve.
04:33But yeah, now it's reality and it feels insane.
04:37And for sure it didn't sink in yet.
04:39And yeah, I'm just super happy and proud of what I've achieved.
04:43Also because in the TT, you know, you really have to do it yourself.
04:47And yeah, it's something I've been working on the last few years.
04:52And a lot of people keep telling me to keep improving in it and keep believing in it.
04:57And today, yeah, it become reality that I won.
05:00And it's, yeah, it's insane.
05:02Restroom.
05:05Hi, Dan.
05:07Obviously, the team is doing really, really well here.
05:09And you're also doing really, really well in the classics.
05:12And it's kind of the same riders you and Mads and Matthias.
05:15How did you kind of prepare for this race between that really big block in the classics to also be ready now?
05:22Yeah, it is now the third year I'm doing the Giro.
05:24And it's always quite a difficult preparation because you need to rest.
05:28Because you've done like a lot of races in the spring.
05:31But you also, yeah, need to prepare well for the Giro because you compete against riders who prepare for it the whole year.
05:40And I've myself been sleeping on altitude for like two and a half weeks since the classics.
05:49And just trying to stay mentally fresh and train as much as possible.
05:53Now, from here.
05:56Hi, Dan.
05:57We know it's your first win in the Giro and it's in Pisa.
06:03Will be the city be forever in your memories or in your heart?
06:07Yeah, for sure.
06:08I mean, it's quite funny because I attend one wedding and that wedding was actually in Pisa of my own.
06:15So it's quite funny that I now win this stage here.
06:18Super nice city.
06:19And to be honest, I really love Italy.
06:21It's such a beautiful country.
06:22And I'm happy I win the stage here.
06:26Hi, Dan.
06:28I wanted to ask you because you talked about the team spirit before.
06:33And you showed before at the camera, you showed a video call with Milan and Consonni.
06:38What was said in that call?
06:41Yeah, I think it's quite special.
06:43They are now preparing the Tour de France in Sierra Nevada.
06:46Yeah, and they just told me I did a super good job to stay calm and also enjoy the moment.
06:53And I know for sure they're super happy with me.
06:56We did the Giro last year and we have some super nice memories from this.
07:00And they're, yeah, they're good friends of me.
07:03So really nice that they called me and, yeah, want to congratulate me.
07:09Restroom, South Stampa.
07:10Hi, Dan.
07:12There seems to be a very big development in the team, also in terms of winning.
07:19So how did you gain that winning spirit the whole team has and that confidence that the team also showed in the first days of the Giro?
07:29So, I mean, I don't think it's a surprise much as winning stages.
07:36He's been riding on a super high level the whole year and he just continued where he started the season.
07:42And, I mean, if you win on the first stage, it gives something special, gives some confidence to everyone.
07:48And we just went on this flow of having super good confidence and, yeah, and really good teamwork.
07:58And I think it's, yeah, a really good feeling.
08:01And, yeah, for me to win today is something crazy and probably, yeah, quite unexpected.
08:08Restroom, South Stampa.
08:13No, a posto goes to.
08:15Yes, you told me a lot about every year being better and better, more budget, better materials, everything.
08:25But what did you do to be so good in the time trial through the years?
08:28Because every year you gain a little bit.
08:31And what do you do in the winter?
08:34Yeah, like to find a good aerodynamic position is something, yeah, where you have to really put a lot of time in.
08:40And it's an ongoing process of still trying to find new things.
08:46We worked really a lot with the speed suits, with Koum de Kort and Santini to develop a super fast speed suit.
08:53And I think we have maybe the fastest speed suit out there.
08:56And then also with the, yeah, the new biomechanic in the team, Yeo, he changed a lot on my position to make me even more aerodynamic.
09:06And I think with my height, it's really something you have to find.
09:11And I think this year we really made big steps with that.
09:14And I'm happy that I could show it today.
09:17Next questions from here.
09:19Is there a bet in the team?
09:22Will we see you with a crazy haircut tomorrow morning or something like that?
09:24Yeah, it was not really a bet about me because, yeah, maybe it's a little bit unexpected.
09:31But for sure we have still some ongoing bets for the next days and the Ciclaminia jersey in Rome.
09:38So don't look surprised if somebody has some crazy earrings or a strange color of hair.
09:47Next questions?
09:48Any more questions?
09:50Thank you, Dan.
09:51Congratulations.
09:52Bye.
09:52Ciao.
09:54Bye.
