00:00Hello, my name is Ian Moll. I'm the guide for a number of walking tours around Sunderland.
00:04Today I want to talk about the railway history of Sunderland.
00:08Monk Weymouth Station was constructed in 1848, and that was the grandest and the most important station in the town.
00:14In 1964 there was huge closure of existing railway lines, the Dr Beeching plans.
00:20Thousands of miles of track was closed.
00:22This bridge used to go across a railway line here that joined up with the line to Durham going in this direction.
00:30In 2005 there was a number of people who had been trying to have a sailboat in 1848.
00:34I wanted to run a sailboat in 1855, so I went to bring her a sailboat in 1855.
00:39This is the end of the year where we hold the railway station.
00:44I wanted to be a sailboat in 1955, and that's why I wanted to be a sailboat in 1855.
00:48I wanted to come to arrive at the sailboat in 1922.
00:51In 1922 I wanted to be able to be able to get a sailboat in 1855.
