"Espionne française" arrêtée au Burkina : une fake news pour nourrir le sentiment anti-occidental

00:26was first published on YouTube
00:28with this disclaimer saying the story was a work of fiction.
00:32But that message has been removed
00:34in videos shared thousands of times
00:36on platforms such as TikTok, X and Facebook.
00:39This TikTok video was viewed over 2 million times.
00:42The fake news was then amplified by Russian state-sponsored media
00:45despite it being initially labelled as fictional.
00:48Four French diplomats were released in Burkina Faso
00:51after being arrested for espionage back in December.
00:54But there is no evidence to suggest
00:56similar arrests have been made since.
00:58Burkina Faso, along with neighbouring Niger and Mali in the Sahel
01:02are considered the epicenters
01:04of Russia's disinformation operations in Africa.
01:07Ibrahim Traore, Burkina Faso's leader,
01:09is a staunch Russian ally
01:11and earlier this month
01:13travelled to Moscow to meet Putin
01:15during Victory Day celebrations.
