00:11Today's service marks the beginning of Papst Leo XIV's Papacy,

00:15bringing together Royals, World Leaders and Spiritual Figures.

00:19The event is attended by around 200 foreign delegations,

00:22including EU-Leaders, EU-Commission President von der Leyen and Ukrainian President Zelensky.

00:27The United States, Pope Leo's home country,

00:30is represented by a delegation led by Vice President Vance.

00:34Some of the central themes of Leo's papacy are outlined in his homily,

00:39and the fisherman's ring, which the Pope will begin wearing from today,

00:44symbolically marks the start of his pontificate.

00:47As was the case during Pope Francis' funeral,

00:50the occasion reinforces the Vatican's role as a mediator on the global stage

00:55in the light of the new pontificate and ongoing efforts

00:59to bring an end to the war in Ukraine in line with Pope Leo's call for peace.
