Le gouverneur du Kentucky, Andy Beshear, a annoncé sur son compte X qu’au moins 14 personnes étaient mortes dans les tempêtes de vendredi soir, ajoutant que « malheureusement, ce chiffre devrait s’alourdir à mesure que nous recevons plus d’informations ».  Plusieurs médias américains comme NBC News et le Washington Post rapportent en outre sept morts dans l’Etat voisin du Missouri, dont plusieurs dans la grande ville de St. Louis.  « Notre ville est en deuil ce soir », a déclaré la maire Cara Spencer à la presse vendredi soir. « Les pertes en vie et la destruction sont véritablement épouvantables », a-t-elle ajouté.  Environ 500 secouristes, dont 17 équipes de recherche, ont été déployés, et les premières constations donnent à penser que le nombre de blessés est relativement faible au regard de l'ensemble des dégâts, a déclaré le chef des pompiers Dennis Jenkerson. En mars, au moins 33 personnes sont mortes et des dizaines ont été blessées lors de tornades et de violentes tempêtes dans le centre et le sud des États-Unis.
