03:36because I'm hormonal, I'm a conformist
03:39and I'm very bad
03:40which is the worst I've met
03:42right, right, I love
03:44I love your journey and this weekend you made me
03:47laugh a lot, I know I look for the
03:49plot on Ishaan Khattar's
03:51abs of course, always
03:52right there, tell me
03:54you should, you know what
03:56you may complain a lot but you got to
03:58breathe the same air as Ishaan Khattar
04:01and his gleaming torso
04:03I'm sorry, stop complaining
04:04you're in that 1%, we want to be
04:07in that 1%, come on, don't tell
04:09me your life has been shabby for you, hello
04:10we don't buy that
04:11you know I must say yes of course Ishaan and
04:14Ishaan's work on his abs have been fabulous but I
04:16also was breathing the same
04:18air as Zina Taman
04:20and I was breathing the same air
04:22also I got to dance with Dino Moria
04:24like what the hell, so
04:26as much as Ishaan, also because Ishaan
04:28I feel like
04:29we're too pally now, so we can't
04:33really objectify his abs, we're like
04:34Papu our guy, you know, he really had to
04:36work hard for these abs
04:38you humanized his abs?
04:40why did he humanize his abs?
04:42not enough
04:44beyond objectification to like Ishaan man
04:46he's worked so hard, you know, so now you can't
04:48look at and objectify those abs but
04:50Zina Taman you can just, you know, watch
04:52and be in her glory and you know
04:54you can objectify because that's
04:56you know, that's part of your
04:58the 10 commandments of being a woman
05:02it's like Milan Soman as well
05:04it's your rite of passage
05:06I'm sorry, Milan Soman, Dino Moria
05:08the OG, like if we had Cindy Crawford
05:10and Christy Turlington
05:12we have Milan Soman and Dino Moria
05:14thank you very much
05:16that dance I'll never forget because
05:18that's it, I'm like oh well done
05:20thank you Nupur Astana for making that happen
05:22well done
05:24are you happy with the way the comedy
05:26shows are being held today because
05:28there's a lot of like let's say self
05:30censorship, I work in the UAE
05:32I exercise a lot of
05:34self censorship on my own because I've
05:36grown up, do you also do that or
05:38do you try not to?
05:40I mean I try not to
05:42of course but I think since
05:44thankfully since hormonal is a lot
05:46of personal stories and a lot of jokes
05:48on me rather than the
05:50world, people forget to take
05:52offence thankfully so because no
05:54one's like how can she say this about us
05:56it's me, they will be offended how can you say
05:58that about you, that's the only offence
06:00you can take so thankfully
06:02with hormonal but for my future shows
06:04god knows like what if I end up one fine
06:06day getting up and being like I'm gonna write the most controversial
06:08show, I can't put it past me
06:10so as of now I am okay
06:12with the self censorship because it's not
06:14limiting me but yeah I can
06:16it can of course limit yeah
06:18limiting art is always tough
06:20yeah but Sumakhi the joke is on you all
06:22the time, what does your
06:24therapist tell you? I am thinking she's
06:26got her work cut out for her, be
06:28truthful, it's called an occupational
06:30hazard where you keep taking the shots
06:32at yourself and it's like a book
06:34you keep attending your show also
06:36what's that? my therapist has attended
06:38my show, I didn't know that she attended my show
06:40and then I went for my next session she's like
06:42I came for your show I'm like oh no
06:44babe, a lot of things make sense
06:46after that, after the show she's like
06:48now I know why she says what she
06:50says
06:52can I tell you, sorry speaking of therapists
06:54a lot of therapists who end up coming to my show
06:56a lot of my crowd
06:58and they come on stage to take a photograph
07:00a lot of therapists are like are you okay
07:02we need to have a chat
07:04I'm like yes, both are yes
07:06are you okay, yes we need to have a chat
07:08yes, that's why I don't know
07:10how else to defend myself
07:12it's just
07:14more than self deprecatory
07:16my humour is, it's always easy to
07:18I feel for now that
07:20the relatability of the stories
07:22that I want to say is our best
07:24put out or best expressed
07:26by using me as the guinea pig
07:28because I think it's easier for someone
07:30to feel bad for me
07:32and therefore be like wait am I also this
07:34then I should also not do it
07:36that's an easier route to take than
07:38you know when you say no that the straight route
07:40is maybe 0.8 km
07:42you can reach that place in like
07:444 minutes but there's traffic
07:46so sometimes you take the longer route to
07:48reach the destination that's what hormonal
07:50self deprecating humour is for me
07:52I can say this is you but I'm like hey
07:54no it's not you it's me and they're like no wait it's me
07:56they're like no no it's me for sure
07:58so I think really
08:00I'm really trying to figure that out
08:02so Muki so what is the demographic of your show
08:04is it mostly women who come
08:06or do men have as much fun
08:08just watching the women just taking
08:10taking it in the chin
08:12first of all the men who come
08:14for my show end up loving the show
08:16they all come thinking arrey this is for
08:18my wife this is for my girlfriend for my sister
08:20she likes it you know not me
08:22and they have too much fun it's a party
08:24I'm not I'm genuinely not like
08:26overselling it that everyone will have
08:28a good time because it's high energy it's full
08:30fun and suddenly by the end of it
08:32when it is it does become
08:34it does seem like it's a show
08:36that belongs to women
08:38I'm just so happy when men are like dude
08:40we completely relate and I'm like I just
08:42spoke about my PCOD but I'm glad you did
08:44that's you know and that's the goal
08:46right if men could relate to PCOD maybe
08:48they'll find a cure with us that'll be great
08:50yeah we always tell men no
08:52uterus no opinion but clearly you're
08:54trying to change that
08:56no problem you don't have uterus but
08:58okay no uterus no problem
09:00have solution you know that's what it is
09:02I love it I love it but tell me
09:04something after a show do people
09:06just come up to you women or do you get
09:08asked on a date because you're so appealing
09:10to them do do fans come up to you and say
09:12I would date you
09:14what are you saying
09:16no way no way
09:18I don't believe that I think you're being modest
09:20no I'm not being modest
09:22I'm telling you in my set also I say I'm the
09:24Harsha Boghle of dating because of me
09:26other people date I don't date
09:28I'm speaking about other people's dating
09:30life okay I'm the commentator
09:32but no one is saying Harsha Boghle will you come for date
09:34okay so really
09:36so you're watching from the sidelines
09:38you're not in the action
09:40yeah I'm watching from the sidelines people dating I'm like guys
09:42what's up what's what about me
09:44and then I say okay you're so fun
09:46yeah you're very clean it's always like
09:48yeah you taking I'm not saying it's super clean
09:50but this show is clean for sure like it's
09:52but it has like yeah
09:54you know racy content
09:56yes but it doesn't have a lot of MCBs
09:58but Sumurki you need
10:00to tell me like what is the
10:02best compliment you have ever received
10:04after a show and after this show particularly
10:06this series like
10:08oh after a whole
10:10came up to you and just and you were like
10:12yeah that's an interesting take on it
10:14I've had a
10:16a story which happened to me in Chennai
10:18but very interestingly it repeated itself
10:20in Pune if I'm not mistaken
10:22where so a lot of mother daughters come for my show
10:24yes very cute
10:26and two daughters got their mother in
10:28and first person who came
10:30their mom came up and you know
10:32she was so nice to me
10:34she said what a wonderful show
10:36and she's like I genuinely enjoyed it
10:38and I wish this show was 10 years before
10:40so that I could have benefited from it
10:42and she's like even though I got married 30-40 years back
10:44but at least my mindset would have changed
10:46and my mind was blown
10:48that I was able to
10:50communicate to someone
10:52who I didn't think would be my TG
10:54so I genuinely and similarly
10:56like in Chennai I remember
10:58this gorgeous woman
11:00she was I think I was about 68 maybe
11:02and she was wearing this beautiful blue
11:04this Kanjivaram saree
11:06and she came on stage
11:08and she said you know I wore this saree today
11:10because it's my
11:12it's my husband's death anniversary
11:14and I lost it last year
11:16and I haven't been outside for a year
11:18so my daughter and my children
11:20said that we should go out
11:22and I thought okay you know what I watched your pushpavali
11:24I wanted to see you so I wanted to dress very nicely
11:26because I know my husband would have wanted me
11:28to look nice today
11:30and I came for your show and I really enjoyed it
11:32and my show also explores dying alone as a concept
11:34or being alone right
11:36and she was like this has been very helpful for me
11:38and I'm like what
11:40no
11:42you are helpful to me always
11:44I'm never helpful to you okay
11:46it's amazing you inspired somebody
11:48and she's going through her own journey right
11:50of like your journey
11:52but you have communicated to her
11:54I'm genuinely very pleased with
11:56what the show has turned out to be
11:57right Sumuki I have to say your mom cracks me up
11:59if it is like
12:01I really hope she's as fun as she's
12:03think oh my god she's brutal
12:05she's your worst critic
12:06with that
12:07my mom's not funny
12:09my mom is caustic
12:10my father's funny
12:11my father's very witty
12:13but my mom is just on point
12:15cut cut cut and she leaves
12:17you meet her you'll be like oh she's not funny she's scary
12:19right no no but you have to tell me
12:21how did you survive a childhood
12:22where your mom was brutal
12:23the truth bombs just kept dropping
12:25and your dad like you said
12:27was just funny and nice
12:28just taking
12:29yeah yeah
12:30so how did you survive
12:31to all the Indian girls and Indian women
12:34who have very interesting mums
12:36I would enjoy overbearing
12:38it's a classic thing you know we all are not a big fan of our moms at least I've noticed it overall
12:43but I think sometime when I turned 30 it changed because I think my people keep saying that your mother's your best friend honestly I'm my mom's best friend
12:52so the moment I realized it I was like no like I because I expect that from my bestie when I call her she needs to be available for me I am passive aggressive with her I am my worst and best with her same my mother expects from me she's like no no you're my bestie you need to talk to me and also like in a she has two sons and one daughter so my brother's not gonna understand her in her 60s and women are all women we as women deserve to be all feelings together at once
13:21so only someone else only another woman is gonna understand when my mother's angry also but she's offended also but she's in she loves them also there's affection also but she hates me also I mean I get it babe I completely understand
13:34yeah I love that I love that yeah listen I was watching baby reindeer the other day and I was like honey we before baby reindeer happened be at Pushpavalli the homegrown stalker I was like what is happening where we are sitting and like you need to tell me about Pushpavalli
13:50you flipped the trope of a male stalker into like you know it's okay to stalk women also do the same and have fun with it we can be as crazy and as toxic like a Kabira Kabir Singh nah Kabira you know you wear that so you need to tell me like what's happening with that show I know I want to know all about it because we there's a there's a cult following you know there are reddit groups about it yeah
14:13what really yeah we talk about you I think I started oh no I'm so I'm so glad you know what we I mean I trust me when we made the show we there was no idea there was no way we would have even we were hoping 100 people watch what 100 we were like 50 people watch our show we'd be very happy and for it to have reached where it is and it's it's so it's so exciting and it's also just that phase of Pushpavalli was also such a comedy phase where a lot of other comedy shows also came right
14:42like you know Biswa's show came out Varun Haku's show came out Kenny's show came out so Zakir's show came out so I really in fact at Pushpavalli I'm not sure will it ever have a season 3 because I think that's it season 2 is what it is
14:56but what I really hope for is a revival of trusting comedy as a platform and you know comedians as as comedy actors as people who can drive that forward you know you see shows like the studio by Seth Rogen or you see any other show that is helmed by comedians and the kind of faith and trust like Brooklyn Nine-Nine right it's filled with comedy actors
15:17my comedy nine nine is my everyday go-to I can get it's my new friends so my 2025 as a comedy writer as a comedy actor or as an actor is that I really hope that phase comes back of giving the helm to stand up comedians and be like bana a funny show people will like it I think that risk is people have stopped taking on funny because that's the thing you know like if I pitch a funny it may not be funny for you but it will be funny to the world when I pitched Pushpavalli nobody thought it's funny everyone's like oh the sound this show kind of sounds weird
15:46and I'm so glad it took the test of time so I don't know about Pushpavalli season 2 but I'm here's hoping all the other things I write I get to make
15:55right Sumuki one thing I do need to ask is do you ever face the fear of being reduced to somebody's just like the sidekick which it could easily all the comedians somewhere along the way they never they're always a bridesmaid they're never the bride does that irritate you or have you gotten used to it and you're like you know what my time will come
16:13but the thing is I already got my lead show like I already made it so I understand if I wouldn't have made Pushpavalli I would have been scared but I proved to myself that no Sumuki you can be the lead of your own show you can take it on your own shoulder
16:28which is why I'm saying that here's hoping that that wave comes back and I get to be my lead again
16:34excellent excellent I can't wait to see you perform in Dubai last question tell me the truth you need to be very truthful
16:41are you fearful of being cancelled because as writers we I am so aware that am I sounding woke enough in my writings and all that
16:50it is a fear that is there what if I get trolled what if I get cancelled it's I'm sure for comedians who are there in the public eye it's far more I mean the fear is far greater
16:59there the fear is of course there but which is why also honestly Manjusha I make sure that I the joke is on me like I think it's the safest thing to do right now
17:08and also I'll give you a very personal perspective that I wish to last in this industry for a really long time
17:15because I wish I genuinely genuinely my my biggest dream is to leave a legacy behind and if that means
17:22I have to alter my journey or I have to be a little strategic about it I will try and do it
17:27but Manjusha I'm saying all of this but as an artist as a comedian is suddenly one day something I'm going to say and it's going to get me into trouble then so be it
17:36but I'm going to try as much as I can to to be as mindful as I can but let's see and you can't really predict these things because offense is something that can't be predicted
17:46it can't be predicted yeah and we live in a society that's easily offended so let's also yeah
17:51and it's the social media tool right it's a boon and a bane the boon is that I get to reach everyone
17:57and the bane is that oh half of them hate me so it's okay it's okay nobody hates you and I don't believe
18:03you when you say you don't have dates I'm sorry I'm not going to buy that story
18:07Yogesh also knows this last time I told Yogesh also Yogesh can vouch for it I don't know I've just put
18:12Yogesh in a situation now Yogesh's wife also knows okay they both know my situation
18:17oh okay but here is hoping Dubai strikes lucky for you I also exactly Yogesh has to look for a shake
18:24for me that and for now Yogesh is doing it now you also do Manjusha you're also supposed to look for
18:27a nice we'll put the world out there Sumuki she's sizzling she's you know she writes most amazing
18:33jokes she'll make you laugh in the morning what do you need and if that person has a lot of money man
18:38I'm going to make thousand shows a day and that's what I'm going to do listen Sumuki don't
18:43lead with I want to shake maybe that's a start maybe yeah I would like a soulmate and if he wants
18:50to produce my shows I'm in I love it the tinder bio just wrote itself thank you so much and I really
18:59hope to see you in action and I love seeing you I saw your show last time in Dubai in one of the
