00:00This young boy, Henry, lives with his divorced mother.
00:12One day, while out shopping with her, he excuses himself to examine the comic section,
00:16but comes across an injured man who asks for his help.
00:23Although he's skeptical about helping the stranger, he eventually agrees,
00:26and takes the man to his mother, Adele.
00:28He introduces the man as Frank, and tells her the man is in need of a ride.
00:32However, she's suspicious of his identity, and declines to help.
00:35So suddenly, he pulls out a baseball from his jacket,
00:38and offers to play together with Henry at their home.
00:40At this point, she caught off guard by his forwardness,
00:43and sternly declines his offer again.
00:45Seeing this, the man immediately squeezes Henry's neck, threatening her into complying.
00:50Frankly, this needs to happen.
00:53At the checkout, Adele tries to communicate for help from the cashier,
00:56but the cashier doesn't understand the signals.
00:59Frank eventually forces the mother and son duo into the car,
01:02and tells her to drive him to her house, where he could recuperate for a while.
01:06When they arrive home, he begins to look around the house.
01:08So, Adele uses this opportunity to sneak a kitchen knife into her pocket,
01:13under the pretense of making coffee.
01:14As Frank settles down on the dinner table, Henry inquires about his injury.
01:24So, Frank truthfully reveals that he had jumped off the second floor of a hospital building,
01:28after the doctors had operated on his appendix.
01:31He also tells them that he had done it to avoid returning to prison.
01:34Both Adele and Henry are shocked to know he's a convict,
01:37and soon realizes that the cops would be looking everywhere for him.
01:40Regardless, Adele tries to act normal, and offers him a cup of coffee.
01:44While taking it, he begs her to let him stay for the night.
01:49I'd be grateful if you let me stay till nightfall.
01:51But Adele is convinced that he could hurt them.
01:54He explains that he had never hurt anyone in his life,
01:56but she finds his words hard to believe.
01:58So, he resigns and decides to leave with the next train.
02:00Meanwhile, every news outlet begins to report on his escape from prison.
02:04The reporter informs the public that Frank had been convicted of murder,
02:07and had been in prison for 18 years.
02:10Upon hearing this, Adele becomes more scared,
02:12but Frank continues to insist that he had been wrongfully convicted.
02:17Didn't happen that way.
02:18Henry doesn't believe this,
02:19and claims they could be arrested for hiding a fugitive.
02:22So, Frank proposes a plan to tie them up,
02:24and act like they were kidnapped to avoid dragging them into his mess.
02:28They agree to this, so he ties Adele to a chair.
02:31Afterwards, he prepares a hearty meal, and Spoon feeds it to her.
02:34Later that night, Frank asks about the train departing time,
02:37but she doesn't know,
02:38so he decides to untie her while he waits for the train.
02:40The next morning, while having breakfast with Frank,
02:43Henry becomes curious,
02:44and asks how he managed to escape from prison.
02:46So, the man reveals that he had jumped out of the hospital window
02:49while the guard went out for a smoke.
02:50As the conversation continues between them,
02:53Henry reveals that his father had cheated on his mother with the secretary,
02:57so he had a stepbrother and sister.
02:58He also reveals that his father often comes over on Sundays to check up on him.
03:03He got together with the secretary.
03:05Adele interrupts their conversation and offers a rope,
03:08suggesting that he ties her up again.
03:10But Frank disagrees, saying he had once tied her up,
03:13so she could always tell the police that he had kidnapped her without it being a lie.
03:17He also reveals that no train had passed by,
03:19so he couldn't leave during the night.
03:20I haven't heard any trains go by.
03:24Holiday weekend.
03:25After saying this, he offers her a breakfast he had prepared,
03:28and as soon as she takes a bite,
03:29she immediately falls in love with the food.
03:32While waiting for the train,
03:33Frank takes it upon himself to repair their broken walls,
03:36work on the car,
03:37replace the filter on the furnace,
03:39and wash the floor.
03:40He also teaches Henry how to play the baseball,
03:42and even sits for Adele to sew his torn trousers.
03:45Suddenly, someone knocks on the door.
03:50So he immediately headlocks Adele,
03:52and instructs Henry to send out the visitor.
03:54Seeing his mother under threat,
03:55Henry opens up the door and answers the neighbor who offers him a free bucket of apples.
04:00The neighbor warns him to be on guard since a criminal had escaped from prison.
04:04So, Henry pretends to be ignorant and agrees to be careful.
04:07After sending away the neighbor,
04:09Henry returns with the apples and looks expectantly at Frank for praise.
04:13Adele immediately notices this and sends him away to his room.
04:16Now, alone with Frank,
04:18she warns him to limit his closeness with her son
04:20to prevent her son from viewing him as a father figure.
04:23You can't do that again.
04:25What? What did I do?
04:26My son is not your lookout.
04:28Although Frank agrees to her request,
04:30he reminds her that some things may be out of his control.
04:33Once the tension between them lessens,
04:35Frank picks up a peach to eat,
04:36but soon realizes that it's about to go bad.
04:38Adele advises him to throw out the entire bowl of peach,
04:41but he decides to make a meal with it.
04:43While teaching them how to make a pie crust,
04:45they bond together,
04:46and Henry begins to notice the tension between Frank and his mother.
04:49Later that day,
04:50Frank makes a move on Adele,
04:51but she doesn't refuse him.
04:52Instead, she leans on his shoulders for a rest.
04:55Unknown to them,
04:56Henry sees their movement through the reflection on his game remote.
04:59Later in the evening,
05:00Frank hears the train whistles and decides to leave,
05:03but Adele and her son convince him to stay until his stitches heal.
05:07I should go.
05:08Maybe tomorrow,
05:11once your stitches have had a little more time.
05:14Seeing the looks on their faces,
05:15he decides to stay an extra day.
05:17However, that night,
05:18as Henry lays on his bed waiting to sleep,
05:20he overhears the sound of moaning from his mom's room
05:22and soon realizes the deep relationship between Frank and his mother.
05:26The next day,
05:27Frank continues to make repairs around the house.
05:29He would fix the loose floorboard on the stairs
05:31and clear the debris out of the gutters
05:33while Adele would wait on him with a cup of coffee.
05:35He would also teach Henry how to change the car tires,
05:38and afterwards,
05:39he would spend time doing laundry
05:40and learning how to dance with Adele.
05:42Later in the day,
05:43Henry is sent to purchase more groceries for the house.
05:45On his way back,
05:46he sees the cops putting up a search poster for Frank
05:49and grows tense.
05:50As soon as he returns home and drops the groceries,
05:52he hears someone barge into the house
05:54and realizes it's a neighbor Evelyn looking for his mother.
05:57He immediately pulls her to a stop
05:59and volunteers to call out his mother.
06:01Let me go.
06:02Let me go get her.
06:02Stay here.
06:03I need you to watch Barry.
06:05But fortunately,
06:06Adele comes out right in time.
06:08The neighbor,
06:09Evelyn,
06:09is in a bit of a situation
06:10and needs to leave her disabled son
06:12in Adele's care just for one day.
06:14Adele tries to stop this from happening,
06:16but after several pleas from the woman,
06:18she succumbs
06:19and decides to babysit the disabled boy for the day.
06:22Seeing the situation,
06:23Frank introduces himself to the boy
06:25and thereafter,
06:26they spend the day playing baseball together.
06:28Later that night,
06:28as they sit together to watch news,
06:30the reporter once again announces their search for Frank
06:33by displaying a picture of him on the screen.
06:35As the disabled boy watches this closely,
06:37his mother returns at this moment to pick him up,
06:40so Frank quickly hides
06:41while Adele opens the door.
06:42The woman is glad to see her son in good condition
06:45and requests for a cup of water.
06:47At this exact moment,
06:48the news replays a photo of Frank on screen,
06:50so the disabled boy begins to make mumbles
06:52in an attempt to reveal Frank's presence in the house.
06:55Put it on sunscreen?
06:56Yeah.
06:57A lot of people don't do that.
06:59Flah.
07:00Flah.
07:00Flah.
07:01However,
07:02his mother misinterprets this as tantrums,
07:04so she slaps him into keeping quiet.
07:06She eventually leaves the house with her son
07:08without knowing the truth.
07:09That night,
07:09as Henry prepares to sleep,
07:11he overhears Frank and his mother
07:12discussing the possibility
07:14of building their relationship in a new country.
07:17The next day,
07:18Sunday morning,
07:18Adele sends her son to the library for some research.
07:21There,
07:22he meets a young girl,
07:23Eleanor,
07:23and initiates a conversation with her.
07:25Eleanor tells him from experience
07:27that divorcees are prone to neglect their children
07:29once they get a new partner.
07:30However,
07:31Henry doesn't quite agree with this.
07:33The conversation shifts,
07:34and Henry tells her he's conducting research on Canada
07:37since his mother plans to relocate.
07:39However,
07:40Eleanor reveals there's a possibility
07:41he'll be left behind
07:42while his mother absconds with her new boyfriend.
07:45So,
07:45she advises him to either get rid of Frank
07:47or watch as Frank gets rid of him.
07:50Henry's thoughts begin to dwell on her words,
07:52and he contemplates revealing Frank's identity to the police.
07:55Later that day,
07:56Henry's father drives over to pick him up,
07:58and while having dinner with his dad,
07:59he hints about his mother's new relationship.
08:02It can be difficult not having a man around the house.
08:05He says I don't.
08:06After the dinner,
08:07his father tries to pry for more information,
08:10but Henry refuses to reveal more.
08:12As soon as he gets home,
08:13he sees his mother dancing happily with Frank
08:15and grows jealous.
08:17When she invites him for a dance,
08:18he declines and makes to go to bed,
08:20but she stops him
08:20and reveals her plan to travel to Canada with Frank.
08:23Upon hearing this,
08:24Henry becomes tearful
08:25and accuses her of planning to escape without him.
08:28Will I ever see you again?
08:29What are you talking about?
08:30Do you even care about what happens to me?
08:32What?
08:33She's confused for a while,
08:34but immediately clarifies
08:36that she intends to also take him along.
08:38The next day,
08:39they begin to make preparations for travel,
08:41so Henry slips out of the house
08:42to have a last chat with Eleanor.
08:44He tells her of their plan to travel the next day,
08:46but she immediately catches on
08:48and realizes that his mother's new boyfriend
08:50is the fugitive on the news.
08:52Eleanor takes Henry for a walk
08:53and tells him a story of a woman
08:55who fell in love with a fugitive.
08:56Although they tried to escape from the police,
08:58they were eventually tracked and killed in an ambush.
09:01Upon hearing this,
09:02Henry begins to imagine a situation
09:04where his mother gets killed
09:05as they try to escape to Canada.
09:07After telling the story,
09:08Eleanor leans over to give Henry a kiss
09:10and tells him it's a pity he would be traveling
09:12before they could build their little relationship.
09:15It's a shame you're leaving
09:15just as we started dating.
09:17Later in the afternoon,
09:18Adele, Henry, and Frank
09:19finalize their plans to move out
09:21by cleaning all the rooms.
09:23The scene then shifts
09:24to give a backstory on Frank.
09:25While he was young,
09:26he fell in love with a beautiful young woman.
09:28She eventually got pregnant
09:29and they had a child together.
09:31However, Frank soon realizes
09:32that she was cheating on him with several men
09:35and that the baby wasn't his.
09:37So, in a fit of anger,
09:38he pushes her,
09:39making her fall to her death.
09:40At the same time,
09:41their newborn baby drowns in a bathtub.
09:43Back in the present,
09:44as Adele and Frank prepare for travel,
09:46Henry sneaks out
09:47with a letter addressed to his father.
09:49He places the letter in the mailbox
09:50and while returning home,
09:52a police car stops
09:53and a cop volunteers
09:54to give him a ride home.
09:55Henry tries to turn down the offer,
09:57but the man insists,
09:58so he accepts.
09:59The cop drops him at home,
10:01but sees his mother struggling
10:02to move some luggage into the car,
10:04so he volunteers to help.
10:06He enters the house
10:06and notices the empty rooms,
10:08but eventually helps
10:09in carrying out a heavy baggage.
10:11While outside,
10:11he continues to notice
10:12their strange behavior,
10:14but bids them goodbye.
10:15Soon as he leaves,
10:16Frank comes out of hiding
10:17and tells Adele
10:18that they need to hurry,
10:19since the cop seemed suspicious.
10:20So, Adele immediately goes
10:22to the bank with Henry
10:23to make withdrawals,
10:24while Frank stays over
10:25to finish up the packing process.
10:27However, Evelyn,
10:28the next door neighbor,
10:29storms into the house
10:30in search of Adele.
10:31She's shocked to see Frank,
10:32but doesn't recognize him
10:33as the fugitive on the news,
10:35so she leaves
10:36after dropping some pancakes.
10:38Meanwhile,
10:38at the bank,
10:39the manager is suspicious
10:40of Adele's cash withdrawal request,
10:42since it seems to be
10:43a huge amount,
10:44but Henry clarifies
10:45that they're going on a trip,
10:47so the cash is released to them.
10:48As soon as they return home,
10:49Frank informs them
10:50that Henry's father
10:51had left a phone message.
10:53Upon hearing this,
10:53Henry rushes upstairs
10:54to respond to the message,
10:56but suddenly,
10:56they hear the sound
10:57of a police siren outside.
11:04At this moment,
11:05it dawned on them
11:05that Frank's identity
11:06had been revealed.
11:07Frank immediately gives Adele a hug
11:09before tying the mother
11:10and son duo to a chair
11:11to make it seem
11:12like they were kidnapped by him.
11:14Then, he walks out
11:15and surrenders to the police.
11:16He's charged with 25 years in prison
11:19for kidnapping and escape.
11:20When Adele tries to intercede for him,
11:22the judge warns her
11:23that she could become an accomplice.
11:25After a few years,
11:26Henry grows up playing baseball
11:27and ends up having a girlfriend.
11:28Life returns to normal for him.
11:30More years later,
11:31Henry becomes an adult
11:32owning a popular peach bakery store.
11:34Frank sees his bakery store
11:35in a magazine
11:36and sends him a letter
11:37asking for a reunion
11:38once he's released.
11:39And on the day of his release,
11:41Adele waits outside
11:41to welcome him with a hug.
11:43They eventually spend
11:43the rest of their lives together.
